What a brilliantly elegant solution! By attaching them to the wooden panel as you have, this also compensates for the back not being flush. I salute you.
Have you just screwed the hooks into some (MDF?) with wood screws, then? If so, how thick is the panel, and do the screws protrude through the other side?
I had intended to attach the hooks directly to a wall, but now I think I will get a wooden panel and attach that to the wall first. If I get a thick enough panel and small enough screws, that should be fine, but don't want to risk the hook getting torn off eventually.
I have recently purchased two wall hooks off Amazon to hang some bikes up.

Based on the pictures and other pictures of products for sale that are more or less the same design, I thought that the hook part would be fixed. Now that they have arrived I see that the hook is actually articulated, meaning that it hangs freely. Is this going to be a huge PITA every time I go to hang a bike? I picture myself needing three hands - two to lift and position the bike, and a third to lift the hook to the appropriate position. Or maybe in practice it won't really be an issue?
