Electronic & Hydraulic Shifting (Di2, Ui2, customisations)

Why does an alfine need a narrow wide chainring? Does the frame not have a tensioner or adjustable bb or dropouts?

The actual question was assuming at some point the bike might become 1x with a traditional derailleur

So has anyone actually used an alfine di2 shifter with an ultegra/dura ace rear derailleur? As it makes a difference to how this new frame is built up? Otherwise it makes it a bit of a ball ache for what I'd assumed was a simple bit of plug and play.
And if no one actually has, do we know of anyone who has, or can point me in the direction of someone who would know?

It will work. Google it but Rob english has done it on couple of bikes. It's etube which means almost everything is cross compatible minus 7970 and 6870 WITH 6770 and upgraded battery.

Dropped rob an email and he hasn't done it but says it should be fine as long as you swap out the junction box for the alfine and replace with junction box and derailleur...
He advocates me running alfine 8spd forever and that I'd have no need to return to a derailleur.

Buy rear mech and junction box, play with it if it doesn't work return it and I'll buy you a pint

Is there a smaller version of the Di2 charger? Has anyone pulled one out of its case to 'shrink' it?

I am wondering what I can achieve using that stem with XTR Di2 1x set up (and a handlebar display). JC41 internal junction box would go in the stem, potentially battery can too and just a single cable can run all the way to rear mech ..

No electronics nerds have stripped the charger down? What about swapping the battery for a bigger one? I think Calfee did that with their old system but it uses their own charging ports and stuff.

My battery dangles down into the seattube. have a 5 port junction Box in the stem. If you have a carbon steerer I'd stick a expander into the steerer. I didnt and my steerer is now a bit cushed and waiting to kill me in the face With tamac (I now have a massive expender in there to support it).
