Just got a quote for a service for a Omega Speedmaster 125 automatic chronometer from Swiss Time Services. The service alone is almost £560 (there are other bits too). Now it's old and hasn't been serviced since bought new in the 70s but is this a bit steep? Or is it simply a reflection of how big a job it might be?

Try Brendan (Webwatchmaker) and see what he would charge. STS are top notch but pricey.

I am jacking in the fags and saving for an Omega Speedmaster mkII, should have enough for my 40th in 2021

Speedmaster Professional is the one for me. The idea of it going to the moon makes it the ultimate toolwatch and its the one I want to end up owning if at all possible.

Not knowing about these things but is top notch worth the extra cash over say Brendan? Would he do an equally good job or is it hard to say?
It's my late father's watch so I'm minded to do it properly (not suggesting Brendan isn't - I simply have no clue).

Official Omega Service centre would explain the price.

Brendan is highly recommended, I've used him a number of times and wouldn't hesitate to send him anything. Alternatively you could contact Duncan at Genesis, another excellent watchmaker.

Thanks all. I'll drop Brendan a line and see what he thinks.

do it properly through STS , cant beat an omega 2 year warranty . they may be more expensive than some, that doesn't mean they are expensive for the quality of thework they do.
I send STS a huge amount of work , not just Omega and more importantly they have done all my own Omega. I have 4 speedmasters and wouldn't give em to anyone else .
Ask BeauNidle about my speedmaster mark 2, he saw it after it had come back from STS . -

I did, and a stunning bit of work it was too. To be fair though STS are masters at case restoration, but if you just want a top movement service / regulation / glass / gaskets then Brendan or Duncan are going to be far less expensive options (both haute trained btw). Register at TZUK and Duncan offers a 20% discount as well. Still, back to ejay, I can't in any way fault the service from STS.

You should check out the dezeen watch store, lots of watches that sort of style.

I didn't realise that the Brauns are made by Zeon. I imagine that means they're bought in from China from what I remember of them.
-
• #20089
Yeah. Bit disappointed when I heard the name Zeon as it brought back memories of shite from the Argos catalogue. Still, my wife's Braun is actually quite nice and seems reasonably well built for what it is.
Thanks Technics100, I'll check that site out.

Got th G-shock itch...
-
• #20091
I just scratched that itch for the first time last week. Honestly, its a great tool watch. It won't replace wearing a real watch for me but as something to wear on my bike or swim with it's hard to beat. And they still look cool.

• #20092
No they don't.

Square ones look great imo. Dorky but that's what they were designed for. I really want one.

-

Yeah but that's from other sellers and expected delivery is 16th sept.

if only there was some kind of searching device, where one could type these questions in...
-
• #20099
£20?!? Is yours made of gold?

Someone should really invent something like that.
Argos have 'em.
I just love the Blancpain 50 Fathoms but know that i'll never be able to afford one. Same goes for most other luxury watches and I'm ok with that. I like the fact that there are enough affordable homage watches out there that aren't a straight copy and have their own looks whilst still looking recognizable. Modded Seiko 55fathoms is also on the list.
Still haven't worn my SKX as I'm waiting on a NATO so need to get some where out of that before I go buying any more watches.
