    I've known him since 2002 - he is one of my best friends and a really good person. The pressure he is under and the viciousness of the attacks he is subject to are horrible really. Sadly that is the nature of putting your head above the parapet and arguing passionately for what you believe in.

    Just a point - there are real complex people behind all this - it isn't just a game.

    I didn't follow it that closely, but I think Owen came to prominence mainly because he stood firm in very acrimonious debates on TV and arguably won a lot of points. It was slightly similar, although in a very different way, to how Russell Brand comported himself in the face of very hostile TV people, which made him very prominent for a while until he made the cardinal mistake of that Miliband interview. If Owen was just another meek commentator who folded under pressure, he probably wouldn't be getting quite as much rubbish. I don't always agree with him, but I thought the article blankspace linked to a little further up was good.
