  • Many apologies for the dredge, but this is almost exactly what I'm currently up to. Identical frame, but in worse condition :-) love the paintwork but I have a feeling I need to sand back and find an obnoxious rattle can colour for it.

How you getting on with the bike? You finding that rear brake ok? I wondered why it couldn't be replaced with a v or cantis. How did you find the internal routing - mines got an outer stuck in the front exit and I wanted to get some previous experience before just yanking it out and leaving myself with nothing to re-route with!

  • I'm getting on great with the bike. As summer came I have got this one out of the cellar for "sunshine bike" duties.
Works a charm as a beater, kojaks and a well lubed chain make it a stealth bike.

The rear brake is noticeably weaker than the front V-Brake, it does its job though. A hard pull of the lever will lock the rear wheel up, so it's okay. I much prefer the front brake anyway.

Sadly you can't swap for a canti/v-Brake since the brake studs for the U-Brake are mounted higher, over the brake track, as opposed to under the brake track for V-Brakes.

The internal routing works pretty well. It is a metal tube routed through the top-tube, wider than an outer cable, so you can just stick a complete outer cable through there until the rear exit, which acts as a cable stop.

No problems with sealing - full outer cable.

I'd try removing the stuck outer and check what's making it stuck inside. Rust maybe? Then clean that out and stick a new outer in.
