A few have done that loop to the north, can't immediately see the advantage but it also doesn't look very much longer and could be less climbing or the type of climbing those riders prefer.

Looks like Stu-bo's lost at couple of hours to Muehlethaler, but don't think he took a break and equally is an hour up on Wacker who did seem to stop for an hour or so too.
All in with that big fat ass of his he's obviously not done badly out of taking the detour and must have spared him a fair bit of grimping.

So Skinny descended the checkpoint road and passed Hippy going up, went to the bottom, hit the start of the sector, turned round and is smashing it back up?

• #3187
I'm so in awe at the people riding this I can't imagine it in a million years!
-
• #3188
I'm actually only following this race on this thread, I haven't had time to follow the tracker. I'm bloody confused...
Do the checkpoints have to be done sequentially?
-
• #3189
No, but the parcours have to be ridden in the specified direction as far as I can tell
The parcours for control 3 will begin at the top of the San Pellegrino pass (1918m). A beautiful but brutal climb with a long straight approach from the West riders will see exactly what is being asked of them and then a steep and twisting decent into the Biois Valley which will test their brakes and handling skills. From here they will find the start of the climb at Alleghe and climb via the 'old' road through Selva di Cadore to the top of the Passo di Giau (2236m) which sits under the dramatic Nuvolau Peak.

shit - only 2 mins between hippy and ultan at CP4..... the long flat route worked like a dream
-
• #3191
(^ CP3) ... but. strange - did Hippy stop for ages? Ultan is way down off the mountains already and Hippy still at the end of the Control 3 parcours?
-
• #3192
I don't think you're looking at the right numbers...
-
• #3193
4:17:01 and 4:17:03 @ CP3 according to trackleaders
-
• #3194
Anyway... if (ha!) hippy stops for a(nother) beer at the top of CP3 (assuming there's a pub there...), there's a chance skinny might catch up with him!
Sure that'll be a bit of a boost and a kick up the arse to the next checkpoint...
-
• #3195
By the map Ultan is on the way down towards the Slovenian border quite a way away from CP3.
-
• #3196
And bloody hell Skinny is on a mission.
-
• #3197
I had meant CP3....! That's right isn't it? 4 days, 17 hours and 1 / 3 mins?
-
• #3198
Björn seems to have stopped because some knee pain or something like that, what a bummer :(
Nope... breathing issues :( https://twitter.com/transconrace/status/760905746427043840

He has done 300k with 16000m of climbing in a day?! Christ alive that's some pedalling.
Not really sure why Jurgen (46) didn't keep going in the flatlands like hippy did.. I don't think it was a smart move
