  • He just wants to go round lake como on one of those fancy European speedboats.

and pop into Gorgeous George Clooneys (tm) lakeside pad for a swift half.

  • Coffee with a beer chaser and coca-cola for the road?

  • Trying to guess Hippie's route but each time I run into a bloody big mountain blocking the way, there's basically a shit load of bloody big mountains in them there Alps/Dolomites. So I'm going with the tomasito's theory, he misread Pizzo Centrale, still Italian Vs Swiss food, he's made the right call.

  • A southern route is only sensible if it cuts an enormous amount of climbing, presumably that means that hippy would want to stay in the 'comparative' flatlands of northern Italy for as long as possible. Possibly following the route taken by the first control car? I don't know the area other than looking at the tracking maps though.

Twiting him to ask if he means to be going that way is probably cheating isn't it.

  • That's a long way round, even allowing for lack of climbing. And the roads around Milan, Bergamo, Brescia and Lake Garda are very busy.

The benefits of going the way he seems to be heading is warmer weather, as generally the south side of the Alps is much warmer than the north side, slightly less climbing, but, probably most importantly, much less time at high altitude where poor weather can have a higher impact.

  • Audacious move if this is his plan.

  • Just had a go on strava route planner with hippys location and CP3, and the recommended route is 260 miles with 35000ft of climb. My lord, how do people do this.

  • Pictures or it hasn't......

    Actualkly don't bother.

  • I actually think he's attempting to draw the state of his gooch. He's going for the balls next.

  • sneaky hippy is hitching a ride....

  • Met office say that the weather in the Europe is set to turn pretty stormy in the coming week: https://twitter.com/metoffice/status/760461036390522880

  • Think he just limits the climbing.
Komoot says direct from where he turned off near Andermatt to Passo di Giau is:
    400 km 8,570 m up 7,850 m down

vs. Como, Vicenca and back into alps at Conegliano is:
    571 km 5,890 m up 5,170 m down.
Thats 2650 meters less to climb vs 171km more to ride.
    Those numbers are just insane.

Soft southern route for me. Ciao Grazi.Prego #TCRNo4

  • Tweeting at 40 km/h by the looks of it.

  • After 15,164m of climbing yesterday, Kristof Allegaert is closing in on 10,000m climbed so far today.

  • Couldn't he skirt Verona and come at it from Belluno? Epic detour but looks much flatter...

  • As a fenboy, I'd take miles over metres any day. Gwarn Hippy!
