Thanks, I'll probably give the Challenge Crits a go.
Ideally I want Veloflex as I love their clinchers, but at £60+ a tub I don't think I can justify it.

Veloflex Crits here: http://www.acycles.co.uk/veloflex-criterium-tubular-tyre-700x23-523.html
£49
I got my Veloflex Record tubs from them - good service.

I've ridden loads of variants of Veloflex.
My first thought when I mounted the Challenge Crits (23mm front, 25mm rear) was how similar they rode. They seem to be wearing well too. So I would buy either based on price to be honest.
I'm not sure the Vittoria feel so Nice. But they do last amazingly well for a race tyre. I've been using the ones my fussy mate pulls off his Wheels when he wants New tyres. Putting my bike away after a race a few weeks back I noticed I'd basically been riding on Cotton. Cant think of many tubs I've used that have lasted Down to the Cotton. We worked out it done a good 3000km too.

Thanks for that link, great price for Veloflex there
@Smallfurry I've not had much luck with Vittoria (pre G+), either their tubs or clinchers. Glass seemed to eat them alive. I've found the rubber compound on Veloflex so far to be much more resistant to glass cuts.

Are those the ones with the red valves?

Yep.

Cheapest Place for a Challenge criterium 25x700 black?
...or similar.

Id always choose veloflex over vittoria.
For road tubulars! Always! The Vittoria Pista Evo CS is, however, an amazing event track tyre-- Evos are almost up there with the Continental Olympics but priced like a Tempo.

I'm sure Challenge Crits where about £40 when I looked last week on Ribble - now up to £52, 23mm only though.
Veloflex Crits are £52 on Acycle so I may go for them now. Alternatively Mantel have Dugast Strada and P-R for £59 if I feel like really poshing it out.The ancient rear tub on my ebay purchase is starting to come away from the base tape - so much so it looks as though the wheel is out of true when you spin it.
Had an unused Conti Giro lying around which I'll use as a stop gap. Usually really enjoying gluing up tubs, find it quite relaxing and not done it for a while. However the Giro tub seems incredibly stiff, real challenge to mount it on a spare rim to stretch it.
It's been sitting there for 48hours stretching, hopefully it's loosened up a bit (and then doesn't puncture before I order the 'proper' tubs) -

Evo's are so fast. Free speed. Last about 5 mins outdoors though.

That is why I call them "event tyres".

Got 2 spare tubs going cheap, Both hold air perfect
Vintage tub Nos with the branding scratched off (prob due to sponsorship). I believe its a Vittoria Mondiale P.E. Or some sort of French tubular images to something similar £15
Continental Podium 19mm, used but still has a some life left. No cuts or anything bad, just has some tape residue on the base tape. Would be good for a spare so lets say £10
Can post to wherever at cost + PayPal fees
Thanks

What tape for carbon rims?
-
• #2216
Vittoria mastik
Just needs a brush to apply.
-
• #2217
Any mention of glue will be interpreted as an offer to personally glue my tubs on.
Unless you can prove it's >10g lighter than tape.

• #2218
CRR is lower with glue :)
-
• #2219
I have a spare roll of Tekno's tub tape if you want - Yours for a £ to cover P&P?
hah, that makes me sound like a right tight cunt (WHICH I AM) - Yours for a LFGSS donation.

Glue is lighter than tape, i know tape is easier but it's piece of piss to glue on.
-
• #2221
I glued my last set of wheels. It's a faff and I don't have a garage so I'll stink the house out for a week.
There's plenty of chat about Crr being higher with tape, but I can't find anything particularly solid on it. Given the huge variation in Crr values quoted between different tyre rolling resistance tests, I'm really not all that convinced.
edit - I've consulted my in-house CdA/Crr guru who says the it's real.
Conti carbon glue then?
-
• #2222
Conti carbon glue is just the same as the regular stuff (but more expensive?). I prefer Vittoria Mastik one but the Conti tins come with a handy brush.
-
• #2223
Just get some acid brushes from your local art shop.
Tufo tape is the business though, much easier than glue.
-
• #2224
+1 for Mastik One and acid brushes. Or Magic Mastik if they're new rims and tubs, and you have plenty of acetone to clean them both with.
-
• #2225
Another vote for Mastik One and flux brushes. Much easier when you have to change a tub on the road-side also.
I have a pair of tanwall vittoria corsa iso-grip 23mm. With those silly removable valves With non-removable cores. The walls are more an orangey yellow than a Nice biege tan though.
I jumped on them in a sale for 520 NOK (for the pair) (£51). You can have them for what I paid plus postage (from UK) if you want them.
I'm in the UK in 2 weeks.
