  • been ages.. you gonna make the pre 8am Sailsbury Hotel breakfast!?

  • (intending to be there early enough at least for a cuppa!)

  • its my first time for this audax .. is it like great escape where they send in batches or is it 8-ish relaxed start? Will be on a green bike, in a green rapha jersey, green socks and hairy legs (depends how lazy I am tonight).

  • also havent loaded the GPX but does it end here?

  • missed the start time last year (!), but towards the back had more of an indy feel, so expecting few chain gangs; @fussballclub would be in the know, ps. ends back at an ACH chaps house aka The Stag's Head, just round the corner from The Sailsbury..

  • really good stops last year, arriving in Cambs for lunch was nice too..

  • Hmm thinking of doing this, but will do it fixed if so

  • Last years fixie skidder I rode with is at the 24h this weekend so be warned.

  • On fixed? Who?

I've got no idea what TG will be riding. Fixed? Maybe even an Elliptigo...

  • Good luck with your attempt, you on fixed? We had a chat what TT rig whether fixed or not but I forgot.

  • I DNS'd - too much pre-TCR panicking to do

  • 67" fixed (about right for my meagre target of 500km).

TG can't be on an elliptigo, doesn't conform to CTT rules...

Anyway, time to pack up and head off to the HQ.

  • This.

I've just rewired the dynamo and D1 and added some reflective bits to the bike as well as a battery rear backup. Need to go and get a nano sim for the new phone now.

No audax for a while. TCR as a DIY? :)

  • The minimum speed for a TCR-length BR is only 200km/day so should be easy but collecting receipts every 80-100km might be a pain!

  • I'll find a pub every 100k. No problemo.

  • Boring answer is no.

Because TCR is ranked (i.e. competitive), it clashes with one of the AUK regs on being non-competitive and is therefore not allowed. This was how it was described to me by someone on the board.

Seems daft to me - TCR and the like are about riding your bike a long way, unsupported and seems ideally aligned to Audax.

  • Anyone riding the National 400 this weekend?

  • Boring answer is no.

Shame, that. I did toy with the idea of trying to do it - as a bagful of audax points would give me my only chance of winning a club trophy this year - but didn't get round to it. Just as well, I guess, as clearly I would have got a negative answer!

  • I'm meant to be doing National 400. Though currently having bike issues which may mean I don't make it.
(basically have a choice between old bike with dubiously welded chainstay, or new bike that I haven't quite had time to get setup properly)
It'd be a shame to miss it though, not many other opportunities to complete SR for the year - 400 is the only distance still to do.

  • old bike with dubiously welded chainstay

That's de rigueur for an Audax bike isn't it?

  • I'll see for a 600 and complete my first SR depending on how this one goes. My bike should be alright but I forgot what to wear when the temperature drops to 10°C!

  • Had hoped to but at a wedding :(

Ridden bits of it before, should be a good route and knowing JP/Peak Audax, you'll be well looked after throughout!

  • Switched from the Pengwern Pedal 300 to the Pengwern Pedal 400 in to (hopefully...) complete my SR. Wasn't really interested in the extra 100km through Shropshire at the end, but I guess I can suck it up for a little cloth badge... Get to visit Dinky's Dinah too...

  • Am finding constantly worrying about things going wrong with bike is removing some of the joy of cycling long distances... though it's now held up so long it's probably fine.
However I'd much prefer to use my fancy new bike, I just need to switch freehub and a few other things and somehow fit in a test ride this week.

It does sound a nice route and lots of food, so am very keen to make it if I can. Plus I'm far too mean to waste £40 by not starting...

I think slightly colder night ride will be quite pleasant compared to recent heat.
