You can ask to have it hand checked at airport security but I've found that to be a bit hit and miss

That looks like fun! Wondering if I can send the film home to myself rather than have it x-rayed
The package may well be x-rayed!
If you take it through in hand luggage you can at least try and get them to hand-check it.
