@willhouse The Pacenti/Panaracer Pari-moto/Gravel king thread;
The Compass Loup Loup;
Notice the middle, it took design inspiration from the Grand Bois Hetres (also made by Panaracer), and Vittoria introduced similar thread to their Corsa G line-up.

well just plumped for a pair of GB Hetres in Rouge flavour from ACycles, with a 3% discount code as a newbee, came in at £76.69 posted. Not sure the 47mm Horizons will fit. This will be my first venture into the 'Brotherhood of the 650'

Notice the middle
Yeah I'll bet that makes all the difference. One is obviously far superior to the other.

Again, the material and casing are different to the Gravel King.
Point I'm making is that they're not identical.

Alrighty then.

A tad porky but happy with the wheelset that rims come with (Vapour 650b wheelset, around 1650g).

What do people recommend for a 650b rim with a braking surface? Ideally black and as light as possible.
I'll be building a velo orange polyvalent with modern kit (not the usual retro look)

i think the list is:
pacenti sl23
velocity a23

Best rims is the Grand Bois, but they're expensive.
Second best is Velo Orange own.
Weigjt is moot as the weight is still as light as says, Open Pro or Arcetype.

• #364
Er, surely VO Diagonale would be on-brand?
-
• #365
Yup, weight are fine, tyres make the bigger difference than the rims weight in the long run.
-
• #366
those are not black and not the lightest (grand bois is light)

Thanks for the advice. It's weird not having the full range available in the uk.
I've found a deal on the Pacenti SL23s so am going with those: http://www.justridingalong.com/pacenti-sl23-650b-size.html
I'm in New York at the moment so am going to see if I can bring som tyres back with me.

SL23 fairly cheap in black too http://www.justridingalong.com/sale-products/50-off/pacenti-sl23-650b-size.html

Worth waiting for the WTB Horizon 47mm? This summers trend tire. Or just get Compass Switchback hill 48mm right away? Basically the same price. Going on a tourer/adventure/fun-bike.
Edit. Compass it is. The Horizon's do look good though.

What are my options if I want to run 650's on my Canti braked 700c frame?
Are there any brakes/pads that will accomodate the difference? Or would I need to get the canti mounts moved?
-
• #371
would work this drop brake pad holders for going from 27.5 to 26?
-
• #373
584-559=25 mm. 25/2 =12.5. If they have 12.5 mm more drop then they'll work.
-
• #374
You sure? check again.
-
• #375
292-279.5=12.5
12.5mm more drop!
Actually it's basically the Pari-Moto with a puncture resistant belt (the Pari-Moto is a lots lighter but more prone to puncture), if you want lightweight, the 300g
The Loup Loup Pass have a different thread pattern, casing and rubber, the only similarity is that they're made in the same factory which is not surprising as Panasonic is a huge tyres manufacturer as well.
The Gravel King might be fitted on my 650b carbon bike, but at the moment I'm more than happy with the Loup Loup pass, easily the most comfortable and quickest tyres I've tried so far (it's also on the audax bike).
