This seems a common theme - youngsters seeking to escape, mentally and physically. Those who make it don't always survive. Read The Outrun by Amy Liptrot for an excellent account of someone almost killed by reaching an island's escape velocity.
By the way, @BeauNidle, I reckon I'm ready for a Gloucester gig. It's been in my mind. Looking at September. What you reckon?

I used to live in the Welsh valleys. Went back up there a while ago to sort out a house I still owned. Couple of pints in what used to be my local was an eye opener - four or five acquaintances dead, people my age (early forties and younger). Alcohol, drugs, car crashes (involving alcohol and drugs)). Hideous.
