Summer caps LFGSS

  • Just trying to get the ball rolling..

  • @Velocio Can't Milltag or Champion System manufacturer?

  • Which is a fair set of points.

However, we've kind of stalled at the design point which is another step further back and we continue to have no caps.

If the decision is taken to do another run of the original design then we can start working through those details with people who have the willingness and capacity to undertake them.

If we don't go ahead with that then new caps look as likely this year as they do next year and all those details will still need to be resolved. Pre-orders will facilitate the next steps and, as long as expectations are properly managed, then an October delivery isn't an issue. We talk all year round about the summer caps.

  • Sure.

    But your choices are:

    1. Low price with good quality and a wide range of options direct with factory
    2. Medium price with fair quality using a fixed range of basic options using a Champion System, etc
    3. High price with excellent quality and discussions about full custom, etc vs with a Milltag, etc

    Low price is a unit price of £4-5 + VAT + wastage (5% total) + P&P = £9 to you (what we've done before)

Medium price is a unit price of £7-8 + VAT + wastage (5% total) + P&P = £16 to you and lower quality than the lower price ones

High price is basically £20-£25 per cap to you.

The direct to factory is best, but it is a ball-ache.

Oh... and the skinsuits were down £215 with the intention of making up the loss on future manufacturing, so add £1 to the final price of any cap.

  • Did @6pt have a design for the caps? If he did, and if we can locate an Italian speaker, we could at least determine feasibility.

  • @breso is italian. You can close tempo for a few days while we Sort this cap issue out right?

  • Well if @Breso wants to help.

We used http://www.apis-italia.com/ via a third party who doesn't do this any more.

They should still have the LFGSS cap design and vector file on record, but if not I can provide the SVG of the wordmark for the logo on the side.

The cap was black, with an elastic at the back fully stitched-in rather than the cheaper elastic ribbon inside a net thing which we had a very bad experience with (v1 was terrible).

We have a custom grosgrain ribbon in LFGSS blue strip that was produced in a huge quantity and which they also hold, which is stitched as a centre line, front to back and under the peak.

I can photograph an existing one in detail for replication of the order if needed.

    The original was in black.

We would need a quantity of 400, and a quote on that.

  • I'll take 300.

  • Oh, in that case we need 700.

  • It's probably an orange (soft poly full print cap with no ribbon) to the lfgss apple but I recently got a cap from miltag as part of a club kit order and it was £6. Might be worth another chat with them...

  • Is that taking into account the initial design fee?

  • Well the kit was designed by a club member but I don't know if milltag charged setup fees per item/order/etc.

  • Milltag club prices are good, but they charge quite a bit initial fee. If that was paid by the club then it'll be cheaper for individuals, but if it has to be factored into the unit cost then it'll make stuff more expensive, which is what I think the issue is with going the Milltag route for the caps. I'm desperate for my club to move from champion system to Milltag, but they don't want to pay the initial fee...

  • Ah I see, I will make equiries and try and find out how we did it.
We went for a full re-design at the same time as moving supplier and everyone is very happy with it and the overall quality.

  • @Velocio The best by far cap I have is actually the Audax Club Hackney Walz. I can enquire if interested.

  • Was the LFGSS one bad?

I think they've lasted really well, were pretty well sized, and survived a hell of a lot of washes too.

  • They are just on top of all this very very comfy. Do come in different sizes as well. Which might be an advantage or a problem. There is drinks in the city on Thursday evening if you wanted to have a look.

  • The current caps are ace. I'd love another the same

  • Had to remove the elastic from my LFGSS cap as it was getting too tight around my head (and it is still a little bit tight after doing that). Same has happened with most of my other caps though. It has probably been washed 100+ times though (max 40 deg C), so it's done well.

  • Isn't marcom an Italian speaker?

  • My walz cap is my favourite cap too, but Lfgss is definitely second. The material of the walz feels much softer to the touch, but it's only a couple of months old so I've no idea about longevity, the peak certainly feels slightly flimsy. My lfgss cap is from the 2nd(?) batch and has been excellent. It's seen far more use than any of my other caps and has outlasted them all, it fits perfectly too.

I'll order a bunch if we get an identical batch to last time, but if the skinsuit is anything to go by then I'd
Bite your hand off for anything designed by 6pt too.

  • back from honeymoon; no, will do soon (next week).

  • OK, lets not have a forum game of "guess who speaks Italian". It's the organisational equivalent of throwing mud at a random wall to see if it sticks.

If you think someone speaks Italian at a sufficient level to do business with an Italian factory, perhaps PM them and see if they have the time, ability and inclination to undertake this task.

Alternatively, extract the list of people who are interested in a cap, convert it to a PM distro list and solicit volunteers for the points laid out by VB upthread.
