  • Had my Park cable cutter for years. My difficulties in making a perfect cut on spiral brake outer is probably 100% my technique.

I for one welcome our new hydraulic overlords, with their nice cutting guides for Stanley-type blades.

  • i remember reading an interview with a pop star I think in the evening standard, where it said that the pop star's mother was a conservative mp. I remember it as being something like Jessie J's mother is Teresa May (it's not). Who is it I'm thinking of or have I gone mad?

  • You're Manchester based, right? Any suggestions for a good place to start?

  • Didn't Edwina Currie's daughter have a failed attempt at a pop career?

  • About 18 months ago I had Neil Orrell replace a cracked toptube in a 753 road frame, plus respray with repro decals. Not sure if he had a lathe in his shop, and I think he's since sold the shop anyway. Haven't got any relevant experience beyond that.

    Paging @snottyotter

  • You could try Matt at 18Bikes over in Hope, he seems to do a lot of fixing stuff as well as just building frames.

  • @willhouse you don't know anyone with a lathe (or whatever's required for this and this)?

  • Can anyone recommend a physio in North/Central London? Needs to be NHS registered but I'm not looking for anything cycling specific. Cheers

  • yep, but it's not her I'm thinking of. Must have dreamt it

  • Maybe you just got a bit confused and were thinking of Lembit Öpik.

  • nope. it was definitely a young blonde female singer whose mum was a mp. but it's not, obviously. oddly by girlfriend swears she read the same article, but doesn't know who it is.

  • We could have a go, there's a machinist on our business park with a lathe if it comes to that, no idea what he'd charge though.

  • Anyone know a good place to give children's books away to?

  • Oh wow, thank you, that is significantly cheaper than I expected :-) out of interest, how long did it take? and what does the repair look like?

  • I know what you mean. If it's any consolation it cost me twice as much as that because I persisted in trying to use large pliers. Give it a go, you may be more skilled than me. I really am very clumsy.

  • Does anyone have a good (read nice) London - Baldock or Royston cycle route?

On road, and as car free as possible. I'm mostly finding things that look horrid :(

  • If you really want as car free as possible I'd look to combine something like the paths alongside the River Lea to Cheshunt ( http://www.sustrans.org.uk/sites/default/files/documents/london20docklands20leaflet.pdf ) and then the bottom bit of this: https://www.strava.com/activities/162788353 which goes that appropriate way on relatively quiet roads.

If you want roads and it's early then I tend to use the A10/A1010/B176 to get to Cheshunt: https://www.strava.com/activities/163173147 but it's hardly car free and rather functional (i.e. get out of London relatively quickly).

Never done the River Le[ea] path but some on here have.

  • Jarvis Cocker's mum was a Tory councillor.

    Singer - check
    Young, blonde, female - hmm

  • Any recommendations for a strengthening steerer bung to fit in a 1 inch ec90sl fork with a carbon steerer? Thanks

  • Don't know if this is the right section but anyway. Does anyone have experience with Musguard mudguards, specifically the front ones, can't seem to see review online. and following a recent crash my crud road racers are smashed up. I could replace them, but since its supposed to be summer I quite like the idea of detachable/portable guards. I figure the back just works like any other mtb style, and I've got an SKS one which does a good enough job, but currently got no protection on the front. Anyone?

  • How long ago was this? Jonathan Aitken's daughter had a go years back. She might be really popular now (I wouldn't know to be honest unless she's doing doom metal) but I doubt it.

SHe's probably as sucessful as Edwina Currie's daughter.

  • in the last year. I genuinely must have dreamt it

  • I think the original EC90SL probably came with a bear trap for headset adjustment, suggesting that Easton didn't think the steerer needed any reinforcement. The later (probably only 1.125") ones had a large diameter thread built in. I still have the bear trap which came with my 1" EC90Aero, but I'm not convinced that it's a work of genius. I went with a glued-in custom bung which is lighter and more secure. I can get bungs made, but as they are custom sized to each individual fork they are expensive, i.e. £100

  • Thanks for the offer but £100 maybe slightly more than I'd intended spending, I've ridden the forks for a couple of years with no issues but now I've questioned the plastic star nut like thing a previous owner fitted it'd be tempting fate not to address the issue. Think I've found an M part bung specified for 1" so will give it a go.

  • Can someone confirm I've got this the right way round... as I increase seat tube angle (e.g. 72 to 74deg) I'd need to increase layback of a seatpost to maintain a similar position relative to the BB?
