  • I need to know where the breweries are so I will definitely be taking it.

  • I should know better after stalking this thread, but I'll be in foreign parts shortly (Berkshire) and need something to get me back home when I get lost.

I also like to improve on the stopwatch and sticky label on the stem for intervals etc.

    Budget is <£100.

  • If anyone wanted to know if a garmin could deal with being run over by a bus..... it can't.
Anyone selling an 800 or similar?

  • How did it end up under a bus? Did a mount break or somfink?

  • On that note - mounts, I need one that clamps to the bars to the left of the stem, or attaches to the faceplate bolts of a second gen 3T ARX (the one with the bolts very close together).

Who has seen something nice? I'd use the K-Edge if I didn't have the gear indicator in the way:

  • This one seems to fit from either side of the stem.

  • I think that's one rogue photo from a different listing that has crept in - I suspect from this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Garmin-Edge-Extended-Front-Mount/dp/B00K75QHX2/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1467927592&sr=1-3&keywords=garmin+out+front+mount

However that's deffo a left handed mount - although I'd prefer it to hold the Garmin a little lower.

But it's in pole position currently - thanks!

  • My Garmin 1000 is really erratic at routing these days. Hackney to New Malden was initially going to be 66 miles. For some reason I ignored its suggestions and it recalculated to 20 miles, then jumped back to 60 miles. Currently set to route for automobile and shortest distance.

A few months ago it was similarly shit at navigating me to Northolt.

    What is wrong?

  • Yeah, I get that. 100k ride it calculates at 200k. No amount of fucking with the settings made any difference. I've had it happen closer to home - trying to turn 20k into 40k, etc.
These days I try to plan routes beforehand a bit more but there's nothing much to be done. I've since installed the City Nav maps so I'll see if it still happens.

  • I use a debadged Sram, much cheap, less bulky than Garmin.

  • Wrong side of the stem unfortunately

  • I need more coffee

  • Wondering if anyone else is having this problem, Garmin is crashing at Richmond Gate roundabout. Probably 2 in every 5 times I go past. Hasn't crashed anywhere else for ages.
Is it just telling me to stop doing rubbish Richmond Park laps???

  • It's the signal jammers the police are now using to stop people trying to ride fast on stupid Strava segments.

  • Which Garmin?
Are you displaying the map at the time?
    Using a route?
Does the Garmin do Strava segments? Are you looking at the live segments?
Is the Garmin connected to your phone via bluetooth at the time?

I've done ~500 laps of RP over the years and never had a Garmin crash inside the park but then my Edge 705 doesn't do any of that fancy stuff.

The reason Garmin's crash at specific locations is because of bugs in the routing algorithms, map display algorithms (possibly triggered by bogus map data but their code should handle this without crashing), Strava segment stuff, etc.

  • Which Garmin?

    810

Are you displaying the map at the time?

    I don't think so

    Using a route?

    no

Does the Garmin do Strava segments? Are you looking at the live segments?

    no and no

Is the Garmin connected to your phone via bluetooth at the time?>

    no

    TL:DR shrug

  • 810

    Ahahahahahahaha run for your lives!!!!!

  • Raceware Direct definitely do what you want, just more pricey.

  • Garmin Connect is such a piece of shit of software.

  • In that case do not use it, there is generally no requirement for it.

  • Not if you have a forerunner 235, it should be quite useful in theory.

  • Unfortunately, yes you are stuck with it. I feel your pain.

  • It's bullshit huh?
Whatever their routing algorithm is, it's just taking the piss on purpose.

  • Uh-oh.

    I have an 800.

What's wrong with it? (Besides the obvious.)

What is the recommend Garmin for turn-by-turn, long routes with lots of waypoints, and a good battery life (I really wish I could stick my own batteries in these things).

  • All Garmin software is a piece of shit.

I don't know what it is that makes it thus, I presume it is intentional as it's hard to achieve such universal shittiness. Usually there's a good dev somewhere and one product accidentally will have great software... but nope, not with Garmin.
