we've had two sets of 36h a319 rims go at the eyelets and are on the way to gently breaking a 48h 719. Probably too many bunny hops. they're all fine until they're not, then you rebuild them. no big deal.

Think I would cry if the spendy rims give way!

Tyres and Stoker bars, talk to me about these.
Tyres-Has been specd with Continental Top Contact II's. Anyone running these?

Stoker bars - Aesthetically, what do you reckon will work best, bullhorn or drops?

If you go bullhorns, make sure they are stubby enough or wide enough to allow for your awesomely powerful thighs.

We have bullhorns on our bob for the stoker, 46cm wide. If you do go down that route, don't just consider your thigh/hip width, but also make sure you factor in the width of your stokers hands (which I didn't). Otherwise they will rub against your thighs when she holds onto the horns. My stoker basically never uses the horns as a result.

Top Contact tyres feel like shit, do not go.

Go for Schwable, Marathon Supreme would be good.

In fairness, on a tandem tyres feel very different.

We've got marathon plus on ours pumped up to max psi, on an alu cannondale and it feels smooth as.

They do, but the Top Contact is one of those tyres that feel like you've forget to pump the tyres up, even at 80psi.

I suggested Marathon Supreme because it still offer decent puncture protection as well as being slicker.

Vittoria voyager hyper are cheap at on-one. Similar to the marathon supreme, apparently roles a little better, mine seem good although only done a few miles on them so far.

The top of this thread reminds me that it was a year ago since deposit was paid and a fair amount of time since the full balance was paid. Have missed any chance to do any meaningful tour on it this year as certainty is required when booking a holiday :)

That way, the new arrival doesn't have to build up huge neck muscles to cope with the cornering forces :) Looks like you'll have to modify the sidecar chassis anyway, as they don't seem to do a left hand drive version.

To be honest, I think you should be happy if you get this within two years of paying deposit. The amount of work and thought that's gone into it is immense.

Custom bikes take time. That's part of the deal. Especially when they involve the amount of custom one-off parts that this things got.

Going to have to differ on this. Surely it's about managing expectations no? If you tell me it will be done in 4 months when the deposit is paid, then you'd not expect it to take 3x as long?

I'm not sure what you had agreed with the guys at Talbot, and that's non of my business (non of this is really) but I would in no way have gone in to this with any expectation of having the finished product in less than 18 months.
Dont really want to get into a debate here just stating my opion based on my experience within the world of custom frame building, which has been both frames for myself, and working with other builders and their customers.

It's a tandem.

I side with @hoops on this, the fact it's a tandem on top of a custom is always going to take a while, and most especially since this is his first foray in building a tandem.

I need to learn to be more patient and I know that you always get the best out of people if you leave them too it.

Whatever happens, I'm still jealous.
