And the hubs aren't great. All bearings are fucked, freehub notched to shit. Went for the DTs at £165 delivered

I just built a new road bike: Specialized Allez Smartweld, Ultegra groupset and - foolishly - a Mavic Aksium Elite wheel set. The rear wheel bends under load and rubs the rear brake (I'm 83kg and sadly no watt-monster). Now it has a wobble in it. I cheaped out. Mistake.
So I look at those, for £200, and they're rubbish. I list after Zipp 404 for looks/performance, but the price is too high to justify. What's in the middle?
I mostly ride Kent, so rolling hills. What are my options? Any recommendations?
Bonus points for an option I can get hold of in a couple of weeks as I'm doing the Etape and need to sort a non-buckled wheel out quick smart...

10 speed? I have some nice road wheels for sells.
Aksiums should be all right though? I would have thought.

Responding to an older post - DTSwiss 240S (or 180's if you are feeling flush) CLD option, to ENVE CX29er rims are my choice for road disc (and cyclo-cross disc), I have a couple of pairs and they're great.

11 speed.
They were no good from the start (no word from CRC when I complained though). Rubbed on rear pads when I got out of saddle. Now rear has a slight, but annoying, buckle.
I went way too cheap.
Now I need something more capable, preferably slightly lighter as a bonus, and quick.

I liked my Aksiums, you must have got a dodgy one.
Fulcrum Racing Quattro LG should be, on paper, the least flexy relatively cheap factory wheel, but you're not properly heavy so you shouldn't actually need hench wheels, just ones which are not defective. Definitely take this opportunity to upgrade to wider rims though, and maybe even tubeless ready.

You didn't went cheap, wheel usually flex when riding out of the saddle, to flex enough to rub on brakes pads sound like it's not well build to begin with, that or you like to run your brakes really close to the rims.
Get it replace under warranty, Askium aren't amazing wheels, but they're still very decent for the money.

I currently have Open Pros on Ambrosio hubs. Done a couple of thousand miles on them and can't complain at all. They are not massively stiff but they have never rubbed the brake blocks; they do the job. Circa £300 built as far as I can remember.
Considering either Ksyriums or Shamals as a summer wheel upgrade and keeping the Open Pros for winter.

Considering either Ksyriums or Shamals
Both wheels I'd avoid like the plague.

I see. Would you stick to hand builts? Or crabons? Or something else?
-
• #6663
Stick to steel spokes, whether it's hand built or factory wheels, carbon or metal rims.

CenterLock DISC 135mm, QR, 11spd ROAD wheels needed now. Where can I get them, like now, like yesterfuckingday?

These say 11spd but I take that to mean MTB 11spd which is not compatible with road 11spd?

Will any of the off the peg Shimano wheels work? I'd prefer normal J-bend spokes but no fucker seems to do that these days? Any 32h normal spoke options? It's not like I'm building a fucking Lotus bike, why isn't anything I need for fucking sale?
-
• #6667
Might be barking up the wrong tree - but I assume that 11spd refers to road 11spd.
Why do you think otherwise?

What about this one? Again, I'm guessing by CX they mean 11spd MTB not 11spd road. Fucking Shimano arse clowns.
-
• #6669
Because there's 11spd MTB hubs!

I'll bow out as I suspect you know more than me here - but the crosslight series has been marketed at road/cross bike generally so I suspect Road 11.
And in fact, I now remember, mate has the previous version of those wheels (the v3) which also said 11 speed on his Kaffenback.

Other than the low spoke count and alu nipples, these should be OK. Might grab one.

Anyone have them in the UK?
-

I havent checked but they are these: https://www.dtswiss.com/wheels/road-wheels/r-24-spline-db
you might get them before weekend from rose if you order now ..
Thicker spokes would reduce sideways flex a lot.
