It doesn't spring back from where you stretched it and leave a filthy sticky mess where the overlap has reduced the way adhesive PVC tape does.

That does sound better. Will pick some up.

Steel.

Is it a really bad idea to file out front fork ends to take a track hub? I assume there's no going back to quick release hubs afterwards? Thanks!
-
• #77090
Why not file the hub instead?
-
• #77091
That is an excellent point! The threads won't be needed anyway I guess so it should be fine. I just need to mask off the threads that need to be spared. Thanks :)

• #77092

There should not be any difference, unless you have a very old fork which was built for something other than 9mm or 3/8" axles, and then your QR axle wouldn't fit anyway.

specialized clinchers, alloy brake surface with ceramic bearings - front is a converted screw on rear and I also have a rear one aswell with shimano freehub that hasn't been used in a while as I have a disc
rotor power meter anyone? :)

Judicious dicking around with the b screw might save you but if not a short cage 10 speed SRAM mtb mech such as X9 will work. You'll need an inline barrel adjuster too.
The difference in chain between max max and min min determines the length of cage required but unless you have a bonkers large chain ring short cage should do 39/53 12/30.>Just getting back to this, I have managed to get it working. 53/39 -> 12/30 on the back. Screwed the b screw all the way in to get clearance and it's shifting fine all the way through the gears. So, old 10 spd rival short cage can just work with a 12-30t cassette. sweet! until the sping snaps and derailleur explodes....
Chris King headset - do i have to use a ck crown race or will any do?
