  • Off at half 3 at Tring

I'm off at 1614... Currently not sure how it's going to go... I've been on holiday so haven't seen my bike in 3 weeks and can't even remember what state of built-ness it's in. Also I seem to have picked up some bug on the plane so I'm on my 3rd lemsip of the day and feeling like shit. On the plus side, I've spent the past 2 weeks between 2,800m and 4,500m and that's got to be almost as good as an extra bag of blood, no?

  • It's all downhill right? I've been following the Hippy training program of late.

  • Think I'm off at 14.47 - The course is purpose built for my build, however I only have a 52 ring up front so may end up freewheeling anyway.

    Anyone driving from London?

  • I just bought another box of Belgian brews. I think I might need to visit AA soon.

  • What BCD?

  • LOL

I'm analysing wind direction and dew point. Calculating watts needed for the comp record. I've also been on the phone to Knights of Old haulage to see how many lorries I can book.

  • Also off near 50min before last man in nat 100.

Fuck. Could be worse. But not much.

Top 5 will be a fucking struggle. Because of the immense field, not my start time.

  • I need to do my old 25mi PB 4x in a row. I feel better than I did this morning but my HRV was the lowest I'd ever seen so I'm not expecting much from Sunday. I'll hurt myself trying to better 3:45 but if it ain't on it ain't on. I might head up to Etwall in Sep if I fail Sunday.

Someone said westerley but that was the other day. I don't care, I'll just be trying to hold my previous 100 PB power and seeing what happens.

  • I decided not to bother with that because it's a week after the 1000k audax I was looking at doing.

  • If it's consolation, I feel fucking great.

Yeah, I just want to race a national this year, and I can't make any of the others. 100s are bloody good training and I missed TTing.

  • Yeah winds changing, but it's always low. So it'll be quite a still morning I hope. Whichever way it blows.

  • I just bought another box of Belgian brews.

I'd take them with you: might as well be pissed when your chainring shows you the tarmac.

  • 130 I think. I've not run out of gears so far running a 1x11 but I've not done a downhill TT yet.

  • You PB when you're sick and now you feel great... git.

To be fair, it's all my own doing so I'm not too bothered about it - I wasn't sure how I'd pull up after the 600 and my legs were actually pretty good but some other issues were lingering (weird ear/sinus thing) and got worse because I wasn't sleeping properly and then I got on the piss so err yeah, whoops. Fuck it.

  • Are you still worried it's too wide? :)

If it makes you feel better I'm running a brand new rear wheel, cranks, bb, pm, chainring, tyres so there's a whole heap of shit that might do something 'interesting' on Sun.

    Testing? What me worry?

  • I've got a 130bcd 54T Geb sitting here and probably a 53T

  • At least it'll be over before 9am. All day drinking session!

I not even normally awake at 9am.

  • Bloody students. Get a job.

  • Just saw you on the start sheet. Didn't realise you were riding. I wont risk changing anything pre race but I may be in touch later depending on how I go.

  • I'll be in bed when you find out, sleeping off the beer you paid for...

    :) xx

  • If you ever ride the F11, this place is 300m from the first turn:

I heartily recommend "Sidepocket for a toad"

  • Did you Raceshape you, me and Pete from the Hounslow? I was getting faster, but you were getting faster faster... you can certainly start quicker (IMHO).

PS Are you doing a Maths degree?

  • I was getting faster, but you were getting fasterer

    ftfy

  • A the beginning of a degree in Civil Engineering, pure maths is my weakness.

    No I didn't race shape. That's interested.
I had been ill a few weeks before and wasn't sure what I could do, also first 100 so unsure how I'd fair in TT position. So I started a bit low, I was using it to get a time for Nationals, rather than an outright good time. And found I warmed up and was well in my comfort zone.
I do need to warm up before a 100. The first 30min was horrible, so stiff and cold. Maybe that's a good way to start conservatively! The last hour was 30w higher than first hour! Oops
