  • Commuting Training Load?

  • Yeah.

    Ride easier 35-40tss/h. Then ride harder when you feel OK to do some efforts.

    45-50 is for sure not easy. Easy is 25-40Max.

    The amount of cycling you're doing isn't what's making you directly tired. It's life things (not allowing rest) that are making you tired. So you need to find a better balance.

  • Anyone else using a Cycleops Fluid 2 turbo? Picked one up from s friend the other week to replace an old knackered Minoura.

    Thing is I'm noticing the resistance is light then builds over about 20 minutes!! Then once it's up there it's brutal. During a 20 min FTP test I was reduced to pushing a 39-19 for the last 10 mins.

    It's not very linear which doesn't help me on trainerroad's virtual power (I have no PM).

    Shame as I like the feel but I think I need to move back to a more linear magnetic turbo.
    FYI, I did a 56 in the week so my fitness isn't terrible.

  • I have one, and yes, when its cold the resistance is lower compared to once the fluid is warmed up. If you're going to be using it for virtual power I suggest you ignore the reported power figures for the first 10 minutes or so.

    I boshed it up a short 4min Climb at 120% to reclaim my top 5 spot on Strava (should have taken 3rd, but didnt want to go over FTHR. Lame). Wind was a bit brutal in Places. So there were a few digs. But Yeah. Easy.

    My FTP is set to 290w. I strongly suspect its closer to 300w. But thats a milestone I'm not claiming untill I have time to test.

  • 140TSS is not easy.

    Unless you're CTL is near 300.

    The intensity of the ride might have been easy, but you did it for long enough that you generated a good amount of stress. 140TSS is a decent ride.

  • That's the opposite to what's being experienced though, no?

    It does seem strange and I can't think why that is happening.

    It throws shorter sessions out the window for me as I can't rely on the figures for at least 15-20 mins.

    It seems counterintuitive that the resistance builds as the fluid becomes more viscose?

  • Was a little long.

    But when you live in euruopes worst climate, and suddenly its blue skies and sunshine till past 11pm. Its easy to get carried away.

    +7 TSB today, and racing tomorrow. So all good I reckon.

  • I can't remember which way round it is to be honest, but definetly cold resistance is different to warm resistance. It's to do with the viscosity of the fluid changing with temperature

  • On reflection, I'm pretty sure when its cold the resistance is higher, as it warms up the viscosity of the fluid decreases and it becomes easier.

  • That is my understanding. It's how most oils work, no?

    So for it to get harder - are you sure it wasn't just you heating up / higher RPE?

  • Defo not the case for me. Easily pushing the big ring, middle of the block early on then it just builds and becomes really heavy.

    I think that sounds wrong.

    Should get easier as the fluid warms. My old Jet Fluid Pro did.

  • It seems for me the longer the event the further down the line my body goes "oh hello, you're fucked now" at least in terms of CV system. Not sure if it's fatigue from the 600 or if I do actually have a sinus infection or similar that the body is trying to ward off... which I just fooked by getting drunk watching sillyball with friends last night. Callin' all y'all it's the self-sabotage.

    But I have similar plots. I didnt have a fan, or Windows, so just slowly cooked untill 99% of my blood was redirected to cooling duties, and only 4ml was left to pump from heart to legs.

    HR increase looks kinda normal so what's the issue again?

  • Fair enough, I may be a little jaded after Weds efforts I'll give you that (Max HR is about 178 on the track, usually peaks at 172 TT'ing).

    Either way, I know I'm capable of holding a reasonable effort. I'm going to borrow a PM and see what that shows.

  • Spend 15 minutes warming up and ignored the power numbers and then you are good to go. Simples.

  • Sweet spot intervals. Bit of a softer week.

    HR increase is good, it's the drop in speed that I noticed. Based on others I race against of similar performance my FTP is around 300 so I should be able to hold an effort, I didn't find it an issue on my old magnetic turbo.

  • Yeh I'm coming round to that way of thinking.
    I'll stick with it as its a nice solid piece of kit.

  • My FTP isnt far off Yours. I'm also more of an endurance cyclist. Yet I cant hold proper sweetspot for 20mins on the turbo without having a little cry and needing a cuddle. Its mainly set up. But I also fucking hate turbo training.

    Get the heart rate up. If it wont ramp up to meet Yours legs needs. Your too tired.

  • I train on a spare TT bike so that's not so much of an issue re setup. I guess HR isn't a great indicator of effort but it's all I have at the mo. Perceived effort was higher than I was expecting.

    I'm lucky as I can hold my FTP on the turbo for 20 mins quite well mentally.
