  • CX8.4 is what you need spotter.

Which are 85mm same as tektro RX5. The more arm length you get i.e. CX9 or proper V the less mechanical advantage you get (http://www.sheldonbrown.com/cantilever-geometry.html#mechanical). You need to chose between the three, big tyres and canti, smaller tyres and mini V (smallest arm length you can get for the right brake 'feel') or full sized V with travel agent where you get both.

CX8.4 is a winner because you get decent leverage and feel (still no DA9000) and it takes road pads so you can put swisstop evo pads that are made for wide rims.

On my macho man I've 'narrow' (kinlin XR200 I think) rims with 35mm kojaks and SKS guards and the noodle rubs against the guards. Doesn't interfere with braking that much though. I had XC279 rims before and they were pain to set up given the leverage and the pad to rim distance and how little you get to play with.

In an ideal world I want this: http://store.oceanaircycles.com/products/rambler

38 with guards under a powerful brake that is not disc (or ugly or heavy or that expensive etc)
