I had the same issue and Halfords was the only place I could find that I could walk into that sold that adapter. Screwfix, Toolstation and assorted DIY shops near Gt Portland St drew a blank.
It does move the wrench a bit further from the bolt and leads to a bit of extra wobble, but it's not a massive issue. I was using it with the Shimano external BB tool and it did the trick.

Just to double check, I need a 3/8" Female to 1/2" Male.... because my wrench is male and the socket is female, so the adapter mirrors this?
