I was always told you should never wear steel toed work boots on a bike.
The logic being, the soles aren't stiff enough to prevent the hard steel cap from bending back and at best damaging the top of your foot / at worst cutting your toes off.
I wasn't wearing them because of the bike. I was obliged to wear them for the course I was taking and was too lazy to take a change of biking clothes for a 6 miles journey. Ultimately that decision cost me 3 months off work. In fairness if I'd had a desk job that would have been 6 weeks.
Is that safe?
