I'll make 30-35k runs a regular thing, maybe trying to get a full 42.2 in every now and again
Assuming you're 12 months away from next time, spend 6 months getting niggles sorted & enjoying running (shorter goals maybe), then 6 months from next year's race build gradually upto consistent steady 16 miles ish as a starting point for a 12 to 16 week focused prep for next time. Get the big sessions done well in that prep block as some were missing this time.
I'll likely enter this one again.
If I'd trained better for this I'm very confident that I could have run an hour faster, well- if I'd not had that burger at any rate.
There's very definitely (for me) a huge performance drop off just as soon as I go beyond the distance I am used to/confident of (which is ~22k)- so I'll make 30-35k runs a regular thing, maybe trying to get a full 42.2 in every now and again.
I do really need to resolve the hot spot issue, I wonder if that is my foot getting tired? That said I did cure it (for a while) by pulling my shoe off, loosening the sock and massaging the ball of my foot. Sadly it came back with a vengeance later.
