  • Best online place to get a chemex? Amazon have them for about the same in £ as they appear to cost in $ from the U.S.

  • Coffee#1 (pronounced number or hastag I wonder?) is a new find for me. Decent SO espresso from Peru today. Kinda like a Boston Tea Party type up and coming chain.

  • It's coffee no. 1, they've been around for a while now in the SW. Think they have about 40 stores.

  • Cool, they're doing it well based on the Espresso today!

  • ^ yesterday they wouldn't sell the Peru beans but today they told me they could, and apologised that £6.50 was pricey compared to the house beans (I thought it reasonable compared to mcr roaster prices). Got 250g to run thru Aeropress & V60 as despite it being a lovely Espresso it is meant to be good as filter also (they offer it on filter menu, different flavour description), I don't think my espresso setup would do it justice either.

P.s. the Peru beans were roasted by Clifton Coffee.

  • Ha, cheers. I've become re-enthused with the projects I've already got in the shed just lately.

  • Just spotted this new coffee place next to Lyric Square in Hammersmith, if anyone's in the area:

    https://twitter.com/AmoretCoffee

Not had a chance to try it out yet though.

  • I'm trying to work out which Coffee No.1 you're at from that photo :-)

I have one just down the road from me, plus a Grounded. Coffee No.1 just pips it for coffee quality, which is a shame as the Grounded is so much better to hang out in with a small child.

  • This was Sidmouth. Spotted one being fitted out for opening in Honiton too. Where's yours?

  • Bristol (fishponds to be precise), but I'm down that way quite a bit. Go to charmouth and surrounding area regularly. I've been in the honiton BTP, but will be checking out the Coffee number one when it opens.

Have you been to 'amongst Giants and idols' in Lyme? Pretty good coffee and they roast their own.

Not made it over there yet, there's the Roaster 'Coffee Factory' there too so defo would like to visit.

BTP Honiton has a great garden space, don't think Coffee#1 will be able to match that.

  • Soon...

  • Looks great! How far back in time are you planning to go?

  • I never thought this would happen but I have started drinking coffee after a 26 year break. These new fangled"coffee shops" I've just noticed on the high street; which is best. I seem to have Costa and Starbucks but which is the one that deserves my pound note?

  • Not sure it'll go very far back but I think it should be good for a depth of 30,000 fathoms.

  • The smartarse reply would be 'neither'.

As i'm not a smartarse, i'd probably say costa

  • Good work. Beware the squids. And He Who Dreams in his house at R'lyeh.

  • It was only a matter of time before someone invoked lovecraft :-)

  • I'll take my pound there then and expect change. Thanks.

  • Neither was the correct answer. Where are you at? There'll probably be an indie shop making nicer brews nearby you just gotta find it.

    Edit: /smartarse.

  • ...and the lone voice for Italian-style brew

  • smartarse

  • Just had a brew from http://www.carterlane-coffee.co.uk/ looks like it's this:

I don't know much about coffee, but it was excellent.

  • I always find Costa coffee tastes burnt and by all accounts they treat their staff like shit. Starbucks filter (not espresso) is perfectly drinkable, has a high turnover (so doesn't go stale) and is relatively cheap.
