  • just saw a big mess in Theobald's Road, close to Aldwich. (around 10:30)
bike underneath a car (Uber, I'm guessing), the whole cross taped and packed with police. asked kindly about the rider and was told it was carried to St. Thomas with minor injuries.
seemed serious, but apparently it wasn't that bad. either way, hope for quick recovery of the rider.
    be safe.

  • Is it this crash you mean, or another?

    http://www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/clerkenwell-crash-cyclist-fighting-for-life-after-crashing-with-minicab-a3258891.html

    Much more serious, of course.

It's obviously not really close to Aldwych, but your description of the scene sounds a bit like it. This one was in Clerkenwell Road, but very close to the junction with Theobald's Road.

(Irrespective of which crash it was, it's generally not a good idea to rely on what police/other onlookers tell you about a crash at the scene, or rely on general hearsay. I've made that mistake myself.)

  • oh snap... now I feel stupid.
that's exactly it! I saw the aftermath of all that and honestly didn't imagined to be this brutal.
and all the info i got came from the police itself.
apologies. wasn't my intention to be misleading.

  • Yuch - London is yuch this morning.....gritty wet dark and muggy. I'm giving May the benefit of the doubt and have high expectations of June. We'll see.................

  • I made it in before the rain. But dat wind!

  • Not very many bikes out today.

Filled the work shower with grit.

    Still better than train.

  • Bus got stuck in St George Circus at half 7, lots of buses queuing on London Road.

  • Ditto about the rain, dat wind though, wasn't it ace, barely needed to pedal.

  • tried my rain trousers for the first time. cozy/10

  • Forgot my rain trousers today.
    SAD SAD timez.

  • 5 cyclists at the junction with Vauxhall Bridge instead of the usual 80 odd.

No point trying to keep dry in that, was happily warm and wet.

Looking forward to a tailwind and less rain on the way home.

  • Srs headwind for 1st half, srs rain for the second. Srs rain is better.

Hoping for a dry tailwind on the way home. And that my bibs dry out. Would rather not don some cold soggy bibs at 5:30...

  • Woke up late, could hear the rain. Checked BBC and it said 13 degrees so chucked summer kit on and headed out the door. Christ, it was cold. My legs were bright red and my arms stopped working.

  • Train to Gatwick early doors. Then over an hour sitting on the tarmac waiting to be allowed to take off. Hopefully will still make the meeting that's the only reason for the flight in the first place... Yay British weather and maxed-out airports.

  • Stupidly sunny in NI. As in, no rain at all for a few days, 19 degrees. We are all suspecting armageddon soon.

Went for cycle with Manfriend yesterday and of course the littering classes left a present...flat tyre. And no levers as he thought they were in the bag but were not. Glass litterers...nrggg.

We did find the only free sunny spot so there.

  • Mmm, rain. Had a gurn like Voekler all the way in.

  • Ha ha. Have fun getting home.

  • Plan is to tack NW getting shelter from buildings then tack NE after a little light rehydration. My concerns are more about the rain, only got a(n) Hawaiian shirt and a trilby, not exactly rain wear.

  • V. wet. Rain jacket of little use.

  • Thoroughly soaked this morning. Left at 9 am. Soaked by the time I got in to Soho. Shorts are my preferred option in the rain though, just hoping everything will dry by the time I have to go home

Hastily remounted my rear guard this morning though. Not that it made too much difference.

  • Pissing rain and deadly wind!almost stopped me..why the wind is never in my favor? :(

  • It seems RLJ'ing is habitual with some people. Sitting at a junction with Gloucester Rd, Bristol and a lady on an orange MTB just came straight across under a red (as we were on the other side of the junction). I then turned left and left again and into the top end of St Pauls, stopped at another red and the orange MTB lady filtered through the traffic, overshot the white line, sat there for a few minutes, then just rode through another red light.

I didn't catch up with her again, but anyone shouting anything from a car at a cyclist is only going to get a mouth full of abuse.

Good luck orange MTB lady, let's hope you don't become a statistic.

  • Sailing and Magnum PI threads this way >>>>>>>>>>>>>>

    And good luck.

  • Thought id get less wet catching the tube. Found the one paving stone hiding a massive puddle which soaked one shoe then stepped into a puddle with the other one while swearing about the first.

    Should have just ridden in....

  • Also, enjoying the half term quiet roads. Hardly any delay going through the New King's Road clusterfuck this morning.
