  • Hmm, will ask the advice of my wheel builder too I guess. Report back on your experiences please!

  • rosebikes.co.uk/bike/rose-pro-dx-cross-2000-817112/aid:817169?channable=e8467.ode3mty5&gclid=coijrzjs1mwcfbgy0wodce0dtw>

Those DX Cross frames look terribly tall & short. I'm 191 cm and I would have to take size 64 and use 120 mm slammed stem (nothing wrong in that in theory, but I think 120 mm stem is a bit too long for a cross bike). Also, the standover height of that beast must be close to 90 cm (ouch).

(for comparison, my XL Inflite Al has 26 mm less stack and 10 mm more reach than the DX Cross and I would not describe it low&long)

  • I'm new to the whole CX deal - I've just bought a budget frame and I'm looking to complete the rest of it on a tight budget:
Would I be better getting a second hand set of brifters then running mechanical discs
Or would I be better off getting a TRP hydro with a retroshift/gevenalle style thing?
    It's a disc frameset and I'm planning to run a 1x10 setup

  • Buy all sorts of brakes wasting your money then end up with trp hydro and box of spares leaking oil .

  • TRP Hylex is the cheapest way of going full hydro, so yeah.

  • I got trp hylex, they're ace. But if it's only for races and stuff maybe is cheaper and more convenient using cables and brifters

  • But if it's only for races and stuff maybe is cheaper and more convenient using cables and brifters

Good use case for those Juin Tech (cheap) or TRP (spendy) hybrids.

  • Strongly considering a Focus Mares AX 105. Fit looks right, hy/rds, thru axles, 105 - but no idea about the finishing kit or weight of bike. Anything better for £1,200?

  • Do it, but you could get a SRAM version with hydraulic brakes for another oner

  • With only Halfords to pick from for C2W, the 13 Innate Alpha looks OK for a budget buy to fill a gap in shed..£20/mth.

  • /\ /\ If you call cycle to work directly, they can source you pretty much anything. It will be shipped to a Halfords and you have to collect it there.

  • Cheers, I didn't realise that. Not sure if much else at £450 has the magical tyres/discs/mudguards combo though, plus looks kinda ok.

  • I wouldn't waste C2W on £450, might as well use the full £1000 or whatever it is to get the benefit, get the Boardman if you're tied to halfords

  • I can understand that point of view, but the idea here was to spend as little as possible. Firstly it's because the idea was to spend as little as possible, but also I've got too many other bikes so even getting £250 signed off was painful. Also I'm fed up with getting decent bikes dirty as I don't have time to maintain them, but at this price I wouldn't mind so much, just hose it down every now & then. Also I'd rather ride this than a Boardman>>>>>>>>>>
    However, CdF is tempting me..!

  • Hey,

I was also looking at Mares AX with 105. I've never used SRAM groupsets before, so could you please advise on following - in Sram road hierarchy APEX is the bottom groupset, while 105 is few levels above, so how could APEX equipped model cost more?

  • Also I'm fed up with getting decent bikes dirty as I don't have time to maintain them.

Buy a fixed wheel bike with mudguard mount? Genesis Flyer 2016 come to mind.

  • There's a new Pinnacle called the Dolomite Singlespeed for £525 too.

  • Logical suggestions, but following chronic back problems, my SS days are behind me unfortunately.

  • About to drop serious cash on CX bike with Ultegra Di2.

Can some one talk me out of it plz

  • wrong forum
