Velo Vitality (Brighton) seem to be stocking Pelago racks now, not sure how the prices compare when shipped from Europe but probably easier to deal with if something goes wrong.

I'm going to order a Cetma so if anyone else is interested and fancies splitting the shipping; speak now...

Has anyone tried fitting a surly 8 or 24 to a non-surly fork? Particularly what to do if there is no mounting point on the fork crown? Would these work as a bodge?

Something like this might work if you have access to a drill/taps

I've used those with a Vavert Advancer. I've abused the hell out of that rack and they've been rock solid.

I think you can use just one strut here in the middle but probably best to check this with surly.
Anywhere in uk/Europe that stocks jandd racks?

Just a bit of metal with some holes in it...

Well beyond my capabilities...
But just what I need -

I used some of these as my MTB unicrown forks were too big for that kit https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/carriers-racks/tubus-lmbf-mounting-set-for-forks-without-eyelets/

Does anyone have a Picture of BLACKBURN Lowrider clamp-on mounted on bike?

• #163
Cheap, but better than Pelago?
-
• #164
Probably not
-
• #165
Definitely not.
Pelago fitting system is so adaptable, you can get it to sit perfectly regardless of fork/geo.
I've seen a photo of that basil one and it was about a foot above the front wheel. Completely unadjustable.
If you want cheap get a minoura gamoh porteur, really well built and fits quite well... Not as good as pelago.

Trying to get a front rack to fit my Soma wolverine. Went for the Basil Portland and it looks great and seems pretty light. Having an issue with the mounts at the hub end though.
The lawyer tabs and the round section of the tube of the fork which goes right down to the dropout are interfering with the rack arm, meaning there's not enough flat surface to work with. It's kind of visible in the photo (couldn't be arsed to take the pitlock off but you get the idea). The arms have huge holes for the axle so I can't use the eyelets just above.
Any suggestions on ways to get round this issue? Trying to find some shorter arms to use with the eyelets halfway up the forks but not having much luck. Would be great to solve the issue as returning the rack to germany ain't gonna be cheap

The pelago comes with thick metal spacers to space out the arms, about 1cm thick. You could use something like that to clear the tabs but may need a longer skewer.

As in return the Basil and buy a Pelago? Worth considering but trying to avoid the tenner postage back to Germany as a first route to explore.
Or can you get those spacers separately?

Something like this should do the job:

Having just spent £18 on a pitlock I'm keen to not get rid of it instantly. Good backup option though I suppose

Just flatten a section of the support out in a vice, drill a hole, cut off the excess with the axel hole and use the rack eyelet above the drop out.

• #172
Interesting suggestion!

I've done something similar when I had to lower a basket for a friend to get it level.
The support of the basil looks tougher so you'll probably have to heat it up to make it more supple for flattening.

Any excuse to get the blow torch out

Anyone had any experience with the Atran Cargo Mini?

The Basil Portland seems good value at 50 euros
