I have a set of Ultegra for RD6700 which you could have. But would probably wreck your bike.

105 one is cheaper.

does anyone know the cheapest place to get a super record mechanical groupset? I am treating myself (on 0% finance)(don't judge). I haven't found anywhere cheaper than comtat yet.

So disc groupsets...
Talk to me.
I am looking for a disc groupset for my new 'nice' bike. Essentially it's going to be my only road bike, and probably my only major bike purchase for a long time.
That said money is a definite consideration at the moment so I don't want to needlessly spunk money. Especially as I'll need new wheels too.
First decision is cable or di2. If I go di2 then I guess theres only one answer; 6870 Ultegra + R785 shifters, right?
9070 seems to be £1,500 + R785 shifters + RD mod to long cage sounds like £££s for not much gain.
Then it's cable vs hyrdo. I'm pretty much sold on hydro if I'm going to disc. In which case its R685 shifters plus whatever group I want from DA to Tiagra(?). If I go cable then it's 105, right?
Is that a pretty good summation, or is there any thing I'm missing?
Any hints and tips appreciated. Cheers.

Does it have to be hydraulic?Etap + spyres?

I'd definitely go hydro, even Spyres are a poor imitation. I've been running hydros with cables, mainly because I race cyclocross on that bike and the cost of a Di2 replacement rear derailleur is too much to consider it a disposable item, and the brakes are absolutely faultless.

685 shifters and ultegra or 105 mechs and stuff

Ultegra Di2 + hydro and if you've got flat mount then you want RS805 not R785 I think.
Didn't seem much point to DA for my new bike. Needless expense.

Any thoughts on apex 1x? Never used sram, just shimano, so not sure what to expect?

Etap + spyres?
Unfortunately it meant to be a bike for life™. #theoldjokes etc.
@andyp - cheers. So I'm now 100% sold on hydro.
It's just the di2 vs cables to decide. I should probably do a price comparison to see what the actual extra cost is. The plus with cables is I've set them up before and they are a known. However, di2 is a bit more bling.
@hippy - good point, I don't actually know what type of mounts the frame has.
I've had a bit of a look at 2nd hand stuff, but there doesn't seem to be a huge amount in it at the moment. Lots of external batteries, which reduces the savings once you budget internal batteries.
Incidentally if anyone has a setup they're looking to shift let me know.

It's too new for used stuff to be being sold off. Only older series DA is really out there.

I need some di2 tt shifter pods - where's cheapest place?

The Shimano tech diagrams should show you. I used Ultegra when building custom cassette because DA had 2-3-1-1-1-1-1-1 whereas Ultegra has 3-2-1-1-1-1-1-1
Or get a steel freehub body or just file the little bits of squished metal off when you swap cassettes.

Great, thanks Hippo

No! They're not on a carrier and can dig in as well.
Ultegra is what you need, and put some grease on the freehubs body.
Tacx do some ceramic ones which look good. I'm thinking of replacing my 105 ones with them.
