Did a long ride with friends to and through the German Eifel hills area, with a particularly nasty climb on the grounds of this eerie place overlooking a reservoir lake.
We started out near the 3 borders point on the Vaalserberg in the south of Amstel Gold land. I lost my right pedal about 10kms into the ride, but fortunately found a nice elderly bike mechanic in a bike shop a couple of hundred yards back, who provided a little screw to hold the pedal back on. It did however come back off with 15kms to go, forcing me into a rather awkward pedal stroke and the periodic use of strong language, but thanks to a push uphill now and then from my fellow riders while I was struggling to slide the pedal that was stuck in my cleat back onto the axle, I made it.
all in all, great ride even with the chilly weather, quite a change to sub 10 celsius gear after over a week of sweaty rides in shorts & jersey
