In the same way that a Cure for the common Cold is in Development.

I just hate how Windows 10 takes up 60gb+
-
• #2705
Does it?
Even if it does, who isn't running 2TB+ drives these days?
They say...
"16 GB for 32-bit OS 20 GB for 64-bit OS" -

It's a cut-down version, isn't it?

Anyone that doesn't feel the need to upgrade their hardware every ten minutes just to install the latest bloaty OS

The machine I just 'replaced' was near 10 years old so that is just bullshit.
I still use my 11yo laptop with Win7 just fine too.

It's about 12GB

I'm sure my last install (pro or whatever the equivalent is) was under 30GB. If you're upgrading it keeps a load of the files from the previous install for the first month or so so you can roll back.

Yeah, well so are you

Thanks for the offer.
The serial he has is for his OEM-version of Windows, so will not work with a generic Win7 if I understand things right.Anyone here successfully cloned a recovery partition to a SSD and recovered Win7 from there?
-
• #2714
Yeah, but it sounds like a ball ache
Install Windows 10 fresh onto the SSD using the USB bootable media you can download from MS website and the Win7 OEM key. That should work and will be legit.
Then copy what you need from the old disk

Got a QNAP TS-431 arriving today along with 4 Seagate 4tb NAS drives arriving today to store all my media on. Setting up at raid formation, was thinking raid 5, first time I have set up something in raid formation, is raid 5 good enough? don't want to lose too much storage, and hopefully more than one drive failing at the same time is unlikely?

There are arguments that with drives that large you're likely to get at least one error while rebuilding, thereby losing you data. You're much better of with twice as many drives of half the capacity. If you can bear it I'd suggest raid 6 (or even better raidz2 if it'll do ZFS). It all depends how sad you'll be if you lose data...
Disclaimer: I run raidz1 myself, but wish I'd got a larger array and run raidz2.

Should I wait for one of those? Not sure that'd fit on my desk or if my on-board gfx would power it!

Buy a new PC then
trololololBut srsly, probably not. Just saw it and thought it looked pretty ace, doing 4x native 1080p inputs

• #2723
Should I just Google that and buy the cheapest?

Anyone managed to get HD audio over HDMI from their Asus motherboard? Displays are running off a GPU, updates audio drivers and Bios, Digital out set to HDMI in bios. Audio working over stereo jack but not HDMI, tried different cables, hoovered dust from socket. Anything I've missed?
model is a P8z77-m pro

I am very little use, but, when I installed w10 it auto config'ed and installed missing drivers for HDMI Audio to work... last resort?
