This is my monsterish tourer/utility kona, mostly used for hauling shopping and a toddler at the moment on a seat mounted on that extra tube (the other extra tube).
Just got new fattish rims (44mm ext) that are super plush.

ALL the toptubes!

You can never have to many...

I am getting inspired by this thread. Feeling a 29 fat slick build on the near horizon.

What is the naming convention for the 3rd? I only know of a top tube and tippity top tube.

I usually use prime tube.

Very cool! What rims are they?
Can I ask you for a real life width measurement of the front tyre? I just ordered a set of 48mm rims and need a trusty gauge of what will go in my frame.

You know that moment when you unclip and put your foot down, only to find that the ground isn't where it should be?

The rims are these: http://www.superstarcomponents.com/en/pluswide26-clearance-pair-of-rims.htm
and the tyres are 2.3's. I have about a cm of space around them front and back. I tried some 1.5 slicks on as well, and they fit the rims OK but looked tiny so I took them off.
The tyres measure exactly 2.3 - the rims haven't made them wider, just the sidewalls straighter I think.
Not sure if this pic shows the clearance any better.

I have those tyres too, quite slow but super comfy and have taken a lot of fully laden abuse over the years

got them thru planet x website for a couple of pounds in one of their sales

• #516
yep, they aren't too heavy either in this folding guise....

Thank you. Wish I'd known about them before yesterday, haha. Paid the double. I hope mine at least will be lighter as they're single wall and the cutouts are bigger.
I have 62mm fre space at the chain stays so will put those tyres on the list. Ideally I'd want even slicker like kojak, but I want to fill the clearance to the absolutely fullest.

Daddy daughter machine.
1987 Rockhopper.
Wald giant basket.
Rear rack probably meant for 700C wheels.
Wee ride child seat.
Massive fun!

hope you're enjoying it! You'll need something pretty wide for those 2.3" super motos.

@nev yep - been good fun so far. Had a guy stop me on the street yesterday and offer to buy the bike off me for a princely sum of £40. I politely declined.
Re: guards - I've found these which should fit http://www.spacycles.co.uk/products.php?plid=m2b62s80p387 - 65mm width will be tight but give enough clearance for daily use.
Will post some pics now I've added the Midge bars and bar end shifters. New front rack in the post as well. Hoping for better weather tomorrow so I can head up to Epping Forest with the mtb tyres.

Nice!
what brake levers are you using on the midges?I'm looking forward to pics!

Got some tektro rl340 for the levers. Pics to follow!

65mm will still be tight but offer some protection. Main problem I had with similar guards on 2.15 big apples was the length. Had to diy some flaps to keep the feet dry. Put one on the back too as even the carradice was getting splattered from the rear. Much better now.

Yep figured I'd have to make some diy flaps. Think there was a link from the practical bikes thread to some audaxers using various plastic bottles etc so will give that a go. Main thing I learnt today was the tyres mean I can't use my bagman. That was disappointing.
Ok it's not an adventure rig for +size tires and not even in it's best possible off road gravel grinding setup but I couldn't find a better thread for touring bikes.
It's my new road bike but I took it to Tuscany for a week of light touring.
It's a Pelago Bicycles Sibbo in size 62 with a Pelago Commuter Front Rack in medium size. You can check the full specs here: http://www.pedalroom.com/bike/pelago-sibbo--28596
