My friend Matt's much loved, and hugely sentimental, sparkling red All City Big Block was stolen by some shit bag from Brockley Road, SE4.
The bike was a birthday present and is a much loved bike. If anyone sees it or can help please drop me a PM. You can't miss its silly, narrow and short handle bars.
Thank you

Hi everyone. Last night some theives stole 4 bikes from a secure bikeshed in my apartment block in Stratford. One of the bikes was my beloved Condor Lavoro and I ask that if anyone sees this please make contact. It's hardly been ridden and should be in mint condition. yellow bar tape and white saddle. Sugino crankset and mavic ellipse wheelset - no brakes - pure trackie. Just PM me if it crops up on any social media.
Thanks in advance - Denno

I hate to say this, and please don't think I want to rub salt into the wound, but bike sheds are generally not secure, especially if they are communal sheds. The thieves often exploit just that feeling people have that they are secure. It's always worth re-iterating that most bike theft is from homes, not from the street. Hope you manage to find it.

Just to clarify, do you mean from sheds / garages / outbuildings / communal spaces at peoples homes?
-

Yes. Bikes are also sometimes taken in burglaries in flats/houses themselves, but it's comparatively rare. I'd say (without having data on it, just from experience) that in London, the most frequent occurrence is probably theft from communal bike storage, especially in newer developments. Another frequent London occurrence is theft from hallways, e.g. the 'housemate/utility person/handyman left the front door open' scenario. Theft from the street obviously still occurs and is not to be taken too lightly.

Not sure if the same in other 'boroughs' but in Stratford they've been placing all these god awful outside bike storage POS in the estates. I've been walking past 4 (on the same road 50m apart) and haven't seen one being used in 6 months. I wonder why?
Somebody at the council obviously had money to burn in their budget. It annoys me to the extent i'm considering a FOI to find out how much they cost - and where the money could have been much better spent improving the cycling infra. -

Yeah I know it's not ideal but hey-ho. As a word of warning, the police did mention that there is a group currently targeting buildings in stratford to get bikes (and probably most other places to). it would have been helpful if the police had told my apartment block who in turn could have warned us. I shouldn't dwell on it really. If it turns up it will be a welcome bonus.

I had a bike stolen from the basement car park of a Stratford apartment building. The guy was stopped in the Olympic Park that same day on my bike and carrying bolt cutters. Got the bike back, but only 9 months later. Turns out the communication between the E20 / Olympic Park police and Newham police isn't great.

9 months? ffs! I might as well take a month off work and become a vigilante instead :)

Someone broke into my house near Denmark Hill last night and stole my much loved Motobecane. They also knicked a friend's laptop with her Masters' dissertation on it. Not backed up. So I suppose I got off lightly...
Still, if anyone sees that'd be awesome. It's got a brand new pair of wheels with 105 hubs/Mavic Open Pro rims/ Gatorskins on since this photo was taken:

Other boroughs have put them in, I think in some places they are well used. Where there is demand/desire to cycle but nowhere to keep a bike, they are a simple way to facilitate it. Also, as well as there often being a physical problem of not enough space inside a flat, or struggling with too many stairs, to many people you just don't keep a bike in your room. (Who are these people?!)

Bread bins.
@hoefla, i'm having to look at getting another bedroom... completely run out of space for bikes. Preferably not on the ground floor like my current flat in Stratford. Terrifying to live in - single glazing etc. I fortunately work from home now so have round the clock coverage.. and weekends i'm away my bikes are generally coming with me but still.

Bread bins are very popular in Hackney and Lambeth (and elsewhere, too, I'm sure) and over-subscribed as soon as they're put in. They also show, usefully, how kerbside space can be used to park other things than cars. Perhaps Newham just needs to wait a little before the demand is there?
So far, they've proved very secure and I haven't heard of a single break-in. #temptingfate You could conceivably use one to store some of your bikes, or would you not do that even for, for instance, a simple runabout?

^someone tried to break into one near me but failed. It was then taken away and strengthened with some extra bars added to the sides. I thought that was pretty good.

Hi, my bike was stolen from outside the Southbank centre on friday night. I'm pretty gutted as it's the first bike i built myself. If anyone sees it at a market, on social media, gumtree etc PM me. It's a Merida frame, shimano 105 groupset, shimano a530 pedals.

Hi guys,
Someone stole my boyfriends bikes(2) out of an indoor storage space in Clapton yesterday/this morning. One is a dark blue State Bicycle Company Rutherford fixie with brown saddle and bars, cream rims, it might have a black plastic detachable mudguard on the back only. The other is a black beater bike, custom built flip flop hub, black frame, black BMX pedals, and straight bars. Let me know if anyone sees anything.thanks.

High-value bikes were the main targets like Carrera racers, no-logo fixie bikes, Boardman racers and Ridgeback bikes.
Yeah those high value Carreras and Ridgebacks...
Loads of bikes nicked from our bike shed in Surrey Quays over last two days, no interest from police or building management even though they came back IN BROAD DAYLIGHT to take more bikes + parts.
Mines a Raleigh Kelloggs Pro Tour, and i'll miss it, took me from High Peak to west coast of Sweden!
Seen below.
