  • Does anyone know anything about electric hobs? Mine won't heat up at all. The oven's working fine though! Any ideas what it could be?

  • Apparently brass cleans well with some sort of lemon juice mix. Not used it myself but seen it done with great results.

The main reason I would strip the top is to get a consistent colour. If you don't remove the existing stain and varnish it will be difficult to match. I guess it could be the varnish that's colouring the piece but usually it's a wood stain that creates the colour and the varnish/polish sits on top. It sounds as though you'd be happy with it being smooth and shiny though so maybe a full restoration is too much.

  • nope!

  • Bathroom is most finished room in the house now, still not complete but getting there.

  • ^this

  • Looks good, that's such a great space. I'd have used a chrome sink tap for consistently but that's personal taste, an amazing speedy transformation. Looking forward to seeing the kitchen...

  • what's the best / easiest / safest way to remove metal wall anchors (~m10) from brickwork?

Would it be sensible to drill a smaller hole next to the bolt & sleeve, in the hope that it will loosen the anchor?

And what's the best thing to fill it with to avoid any water damage - plain cement?

  • Anyone got a 3" or 4" belt sander they don't want anymore?

  • If they're the expanding type then you might be able to tap them straight with a drill bit and pull them out. It's a tricky process though, otherwise drill them out starting with a small hss bit then gradually go larger.

Not sure about filling, if they're external then murex is a good filler.

  • Yeah, we lost a 'bedroom' but we now have a super spacious bathroom, so I'm pleased with it.

I like these black taps and for £80 from Ikea think they're a good price but I do know what you mean. I would've preferred black fittings everywhere against the white/yellow but they're a pita to find nice ones that don't cost a fortune.

Kitchen, last couple of coats of paint this week and then painting the woodwork. Need to replace the windows next month as well.

It's strange for me it feels like it's taking a lot longer than I would like but people keep saying we're moving fast. I guess I'm just impatient. Plaster should be dry by the weekend with this weather, so mist coating the fuck out of it

    @Soul @Aroogah cheers guys

  • pretty sure cats would choose lasers over tape measures too. they go bonkers for the red dot.

  • What some people list as a 'bedroom' is often smaller than the legal requirements for a prison cell. Good bathrooms always add more value anyway.

The 4th 'bedroom' at ours is now a small walk in closet.

  • The previous bedroom, turned the bathroom into an l shape and meant that the bedroom only had the small window in it. I couldn't tell if you'd say the bedroom was in the bathroom or it was an en suite. Either way it sucked and a bigger bathroom made much more sense for us. My aunt said I was an idiot for doing it but hey ho.

  • @diable if dbr passes I'd be interested

  • Also no negative comments from @chrisbmx116 about those bevelled tiles :P

  • I have a Festool voucher but no disposable cash, £50 off a spend of £500, £100 off a spend of £800, £225 off a spend of £1500. If anyone wants, shout before the recycling goes out.

  • He always did have odd ideas about what constituted a proper Metro tile.

  • @BQ Flat! Always flat!
@Tenderloin bathroom does look mint though. Even with the bevels... top work.

  • Thanks diable, but I'm gonna splash on something new in the end I reckon. All yours @Tenderloin

  • The lever of our kitchen tap (Ikea) has unscrewed and despite much effort I cannot get it to screw back in properly, even when I removed the rubber washer.
There's not much thread and I can barely get it to bite. Even if I do, it quickly comes undone again.
A previous tap had the same issue (yes i'll never buy one of these again) and superglue didn't work.
Is there anything that will? Or do I have to replace it?
    Thanks.

  • Can you bodge it with a bit of sugru?

  • Thanks. Worth a try. Never used it before so not sure how strong it bonds.

  • Pretty inconvenient, but take it back to Ikea
