At least I'll hopefully be in tropical Oxford this time next year.
Today's Oxford TT league 10 was called off due to snow and rain too...

I'm guessing that won't be the case for events run under CTT regulations, now that there's a Scotland district.
I think I read somewhere that they were going to be allowed so long as an appropriate risk assessment was carried out, I'll have to see if I can find where or if I've made that up.

There's a dead turn on the Westferry 25 course.

found it
CTT’s policy in the 1990s was not to sanction new courses that required a dead turn in the road. That however was in the days before CTT introduced the strict requirement that all courses (both those used for open and for club events) MUST have a risk assessment. The CTT insurers say that they are happy to leave CTT to manage its risk, and for so long as the claims record remains good that is expected to remain the case. As such, provided that a full and proper risk assessment is carried out, and it is considered safe to have a dead turn, then this shouldn’t be a problem.

I don't know if this is the correct place for this, but I'm after some advice for the Rapha Manchester to London ride I'm doing in September, I've been wondering if it would be possible to do it with TT bars. I currently ride a fixed Hinde, which I swap bars on depending on if I'm commuting (bull horns), doing a bigger ride (TT bars), or riding at the track (drops).
I can't decide it TT bars would be appropriate for a 220 mile ride, due to the option of 3 different positions, (upright on the pads, down on the starter bars, and flat on the extensions). They might also allow me to rest in the TT position and take the weight off the wrists for a while. On the other hand the TT position might be a really stupid idea for anything over a 100 miles. Either way, I'll have to up my distances as I've not ridden for further than about 60 miles with TT bars before, so I might be answering my own question before long.
But what would be the furthest you would happily ride on the extensions?

Aerobars are standard kit for long distance cycling. I'll be using them for the TCR, as will most others. Virtually always used on RAAM, etc.

Virtually always used on RAAM
Weren't they pretty much invented for RAAM? Before people even realised the aero gain, they wanted them for the relief of hand and wrist pressure.

Only 518, I'm afraid.

I think I've seen video of that and it seemed to show a lot of group riding so that may be a consideration but if you're likely to spend much time riding solo then aerobars are good as they take the weight off your hands. Whatever you choose, make sure you use it lots before the actually ride in question and especially give yourself time to get used to riding on aerobars.

I think I know the answer to this, but my castelli bodypaint 3 has fallen apart and wiggle has agreed to replace/refund, they don't have it in stock anyway till late may/june, so either need to go elsewhere or consider other options, and I wondered if the quality/robustness of the nopinz offerings is better and they are as fast/faster?
I guess the trip suit is probably the one to go for, and i'd probably get a speedpocket fitted to a new castelli anyway so financially there's not a tonne in it.
then theres the problem that i'm a size medium waist and hips but size large chest..

They are as fast, and they're much more durable. Blake can do custom sizing if you ask.

I've got a Nopinz suit and I've got quite big shoulders relative to hips - and it is a real challenge for me to get into it.
If you get one and are in doubt, go for the larger, not the smaller size. -
• #12544
Are nopinz happy with people buying a couple of suits to try on, and then retuning one of them?
-
• #12545
But Tops uses Castelli... you must be in such turmoil :P
-
• #12546
and comfortable - I do think the pad in the castelli is pretty decent...
-
• #12547
Can't comment on that yet - seems decent but I was having saddle issues the only time I've ridden it.

I liked their San Remo jersey/knicks but hated the skinsuit of theirs I tried. I've raced a 12hr in the NoPinz suit and apart from the fact the race was shit the suit itself was good. Not as comfy as my Assos but decent.

Thanks for the replies, I thought as much, with ironmans etc being done on TT bikes etc. Just wanted to check. Think I'll go ahead and use them. Have been using TT bars for a couple of years so should be ok, will just make sure I get out of them when riding behind others. And also need to make sure my core and back are well conditioned...

ok, I'll go with it, just to decide on colours now, got to be grey or pink - cant be black and red #clubrivals
Fuck off Scilly, Sussex already has a resident village idiot and I would view your proximity as a threat to my status. All the courses around here are slow and the people eat roadkill.
Damn, new page fail.
