Ah yes of course, aluminium is not going to like that sort of treatment, and will result in all the faff/pointlessness that you guys mention.
I heard about getting bumps out of steel tubes by pulling/driving a large ball bearing through them... which is a fun thought but would obviously be a PITA/impossibru.
I've had old steel frames repaired before by having the area heated, then a steel bar pushed through the tube. Albeit I've only had this done on seat tubes which are easily accessible
