  • Yup I'm trying to keep it light as possible - minimum clothes, kit. If I have to camp out, it will be a bivi + jungle bag.

  • I did 1,200 miles on an extended LEJOG last year on vittoria open pave 28's and nae punctures were had. As far as I can tell these things, they seemed pretty comfortable/fast.

  • I see everything, Jack.

Really nice bloke, came to visit the Bomberdrome gang in Northampton a while ago.

  • Cheers, looks like it's a cruiser based on the centre of the tube map. I can see it now, the section between the two northern lines and central and district.

  • I'm riding a road bike so max is 28c's. Bikepacking with limited kit.

I'd suggest Marathon Supreme (check 'em out, not like plus at all) but I don't think the 28s would fit. They come up fairly large.

  • While on the topic of tyres, any suggestions for a fast/light touring bike? Tarmac only with a saddlebag/barbag combo. Clearance isn't an issue but price might be.
    Come at me.

  • head over to the functional bikes thread, my inital shout is look at what genesis has to offer.

  • Sorry, my post isn't very clear on a second reading -I'm looking for tyre suggestions.
I've already built up the bike (All City Space Horse) but am looking for some better tyres than the Marathon Plus I put on as a stop gap!

  • Try the "which tyres" thread.

  • Shall do. I've looked there before - its pretty impenetrable.
I'll just post a straight question.

  • The Panasonic Ribmos may be a good shout. My last set gave me 18 months of puncture free commuting along the South Circular. When I replaced them they looked like something from a shrapnel test chamber.

  • Schwalbe Durano Plus are pretty nails IME

  • Vittoria Randonneurs have been good to me for similar.

  • Oops I shoulda asked "where is the tyres thread?" Instead of what tyre I should use! Sorry!

  • Need to swap a shimano cassette over, can I do this without the specific cassette tool?

Whole garage of car related tools to hand

  • Unlikely (happy to be proven wrong though!). Post here and you will probably get a quick offer of one to borrow.

  • No. You'll need a Shimano chain tool and a chain whip. Neither of those are likely to be in a garage of car-related tools. They're not in mine certainly.

  • Indeed Hair Schick.

    That's a homoiophone. :)

  • What are my options for mtb handlebars with around 15 to 20 degrees backsweep and oversized clamp area?

  • On-One Fleegle and Fleegle Pro both hav 15 degrees backsweep and come in 25.4 or 31.8, depending what's in stock. Various colours. When they have sales, the cheapest I've seen a 31.8 Pro was £10. They only have the 25.4 versions of both Pro and Non-Pro in stock today, but they're selling them for £4.99.

  • I have a pile of Fleegles in 25,4 and they haven't had OS ones in stocks for months, unfortunately.

  • Answer 20/20 carbon...20 back, 20 rise.

I got myself some Salsa Bend 2 (17 deg back) as it's alloy and less likely to get destroyed from bikepacking.

  • Cross post from touring thread.

Anyone travel to Corsica with bike before? Looking at different ways of getting there. LDN > PARIS > (some ferry) > AJACCIO (cycle) BASTIA > (some ferry) > PARIS > LDN is the plan. Advice appreciated.

  • The ferry terminal in Paris is a long way out of town...
