  • Clever rear pivot though........keep the site out!

  • Been away from the internetz for a few days.

    BareNecessities :) the DH Enduro at the Fort used to make you ride up to the wall ride via access tracks/roads, this was to thin the herd out abit or have 100 people trying to do something stupid on a bit of track maybe just wide enough for 2 people with old school width handle bars. For the contenders the race was pretty much won by getting a damn good sprint on at the start on the about 2 miles (i think) uphill slog on a DH bike :) i passed people that where close to passing out or about to puke from overdoing it a bit at the start.....

    Found a bike that might fit you at the show today :) 853 too

    I do like a Rocket. Sadly still too small, unless @Smallfurry wants to tell me that it's 'chuckable'...

    Really like the stuff that Joe at Starling Cycles has been producing. I think he's Bristol based and also showing at Bespoked this year.

  • Yep Starling is showing, however i didn't get any piccys of them.

    I lasted 2 hours then it got too busy for me and was really hard to just stand back and soak in a whole bike, more trying not to get elbowed in the face while looking at shiny things.

    Was mostly distracted by lugged things (Llewellyn was there), didn't see much mountain bike stuff, was probs buried, loads of adventure and touring set ups and the usual road and fixed gear.
    This from Winter Bicycles was nice.

  • Boost cranks have a 3mm spacer for chain line no?

  • Great ride yesterday afternoon in the Surrey hills. All the best bits were just dry enough to be properly quick for the first time this year that ive been out. Some lovely people have also been out and fixed up the Barry Knows Best trail so the berms are running much nicer. Many thanks trail pixies!

    Also, new to me XT trail SPD pedals. What a revelation. Loads better feeling than standard SPD pedals. Definitely recommend.

    Only moan, some losers have dumped a load of rubbish at the bottom of the steep rooty section next to Leith Hill Tower. How much of a total bellend do you have to be to drive up a random and difficult to access track only to flytip your crap in the middle of what it probably one of the busiest paths in Surrey, on National Trust land?

    Hoping Karma catches up with them. Any of the insults listed in the Katy Hopkins thread would do.

  • Any recomendations for a rear shock?

    7,5" x 5".

    Its for what I'm going to call a short travel AM bike.

    I'm going to need to Climb loads, considering where I live, so want a pedal friendly shock. But want to get the most out of the bike on the way Down. My frame isnt compatible With piggy backs, or even the clever cane Creek inline one.

    Sat at my desk, a Remote seems logical. Easy to swap between Climb and descend set-ups. But out on the trail I'm a simplistic soul. Just having a gear lever is going to be a Sharp Learning curve for me. I've spent the last few years single speeding on a fully rigid 29er. Which I tended to just ride untill I fell off. Then dialled Things back a notch. Probably a bit too old to be falling off my bike so much these days though.

  • This build is so like the randonee ski set up I put together its laughable.

    Epically fat powder skis, solid freeride bindings, bolted togther via MFD plates. Hugely overbuilt and agonizingly Heavy on the way up. Bonkers fun on the way down (after a breather). The Whole set-up far beyond my ability Level to exploit too.

  • I've not done remotes for the rear but I've found front remotes a PITA - always gumming up and sticking etc. I'd guess the extra length and more convoluted routing for a rear will be worse.

    I run my CTD slightly over pressure, fully open all the time with quite a lot of rebound damping and try and winch not stomp. Works for me.

  • I'm looking at a CTD. Thats basically what Commencal spec. My thinking was to run it without a Remote, and set up for optimum performance in trail mode. I'm then free to move to descend or Climb if a long enough hill comes up, that I can be arsed reaching between my legs.

    Top of my list is the X-fusion O2 RCX though. Mainly because of Budget, and the fact that the x-fusion slant is top of my fork list.

  • I use a CTD Factory, with no remote. Was toying with the idea of a remote, but the access switch is very easy to reach for me (Giant Anthem). I rarely use the climb function. I use trail at setting 1 (out of 3, softest trail setting) for 80% of my riding, including some short climbs, and then flick it to descend when descending long runs. I want to put a sticker on my bars saying "right-climb", as that means I reach down and flick the switch to my right to engage climb mode, left hand to engage descend. Easy as.

  • Seems most of the shocks in this category have some sort of 3 position option. Does sound the nicest option.

    Fox CTD

    I'd like a matchy matchy fork though. So the Fox option might get pricey.

  • Fox CTD has 3 quick switch positions, but also has a very nifty trail adjust option, where the trail setting has three different sub-settings.

  • Go for the fork you like the most and match with that.

    Difficult to go that wrong with modern shocks, so long as you take the time to set them up right.

  • This strikes me as one of the many Things that look awesome on the interwebs. But will confuse when I simutaneously am trying to ride a bike.

    Nifty though.

  • Isnt it only the pricey factory Versions of CTD that have that 1-2-3 switch?

    If I start trying to programme a complex series of dials I'll explode in ball of flames.

  • I think it'll be fine so long as it can all be dialled in and set up at home. Then not need touching while riding.

    My riding bud had front and rear mech levers, front and rear lockout levers, and was talking about getting a Remote dropper. He loves having so much Control.

    I'm the opposite. Much as Westcoast Norway is the stupidest Place in the world to singlespeed offroad. I had a blast. I just didnt get very far, and did a lot of walking.

  • Rebound and lockout.....no need for any more IMHO....

    I don't even use the lockout that much...
