I popped my forks out to cut the steerer and now there's too wide a gap between fork crown and frame. I've obviously put something together in the wrong order. Does this look obviously wrong to anyone?

It look like the fork have an integrated crown already with the metal crown race installed on top and an upside down exposed cartridge bearing.
Who's the fuck is your mechanic?
