  • What the fark! So sorry to hear this @Hulsroy

  • Did you just discovered the internet?

  • @Hulsroy shithouses! Will keep my eyes open.

  • I think its a fairly standard hitch system. An adaptor bolts on where the axle nut is on a normal bike. Just need a flatish area around it.

Or at least I've seen very similar hitch mounts on other trailers.

  • surly nice or blackburn outpost? i quite like the fact that the surly is steel, and the has a 10kg higher carrying capacity (that I will probably never use), but, it's good to know its there

  • Just bought a walk giant basket for the rockhopper comp 1987.

    Need guards. Talk to me.

  • Blackburn is cheaper and lighter (and prettier)

Soma is more expensive and heavier (and sturdier)

  • I think that's a half finished cad sketch...

  • Agreed. (Although @Brameses is right about capacity, I was carrying round 12 kilos of crap the other day on the outpost - I weighted panniers once home - and while it was perfectly fine and stable, I could tell reaching the manufacturer's limit of 20 kilos could be a bit much maybe)

I now regret a bit not having had the patience to try find the outpost front rack in black rather than "scandium" grey. Because I now want a rear rack I'm stuck. Rear matching outpost rack has a weird design (although I like the look). I think it wouldn't support properly my Ortliebs, too high, no dog legs, etc... Another brand rack would have to be black (i.e. Tortec epic), non colour matching, bit annoying, although functionally fine.
Anywhere in London I can see the rear outpost? Maybe I'm wrong about ortliebs on it?

  • ^ I couldn't find it in black anywhere, only seemed to be in promo shots. I gave up in the end as the small size of the top rack annoyed me

  • The blackburn is not that much cheaper, the bike was cheap so I think i can afford a bit more on the rack and go surly, just in case i ever want to really carry stuff. nice to have the option i think, and esp if @veLLo thinks its a touch wobbly with 12....

@TM blackburn is deffo much better looking, but hopefully the chunky surly aesthetic will suit the bike.

the only other thought was going for the soma porteur but im not sure if that will be a hassle for panniers. Searched a lot and cant find anyone doing so i guess that is for a reason.

  • Help please! I'm looking for a pic, sure it's in here somewhere, a Cross Check, on a wooden bridge, ladened up with bikepacking gear. Can't remember which page and haven't the time to go through 474 pages. Cheers. Jon

  • The Blackburn rack is as flexy as a wet noodle. Really poor product IMHO. The Surly one is quite heavy but is a great rack and looks the boss

  • Thank you.

  • Bit extreme... The top connector allows mounting in locations that could induce more overhanging, and compromise rigidity. I put mine in (I think) a well balanced position, fire what I'll ever use it for, it's definitely stiff enough.
12kg was fine, I only suggested that 20, as the announced maximum, seemed a bit optimistic...

  • The blackburn is not that much cheaper

I thought the surly was well over £100?
Paid £55 posted for the Blackburn.

  • £82 inc delivery, was 83 but if you "like" triton cycles they even take a quid off : )

it's the surly nice 2.0, I was reading that they updated the connecting parts after a few complaints about the first model

  • 4 rings !

  • With 50.4BCD, anything possible.
