  • Looks like tektro to me

  • cant find shiny ones..

  • Yes, I didn't think gears and brakeless was a good shout.

(they're the cheapest tektro V's which are actually amazing. Got them from Clever Mike )

  • Ive got one of these, that I was going to put on the back of my rear rack:

But now I'm thinking of getting one of these:

    and mounting it like this:

So If I ever decided to take the rear rack off I can do easily.

Also wondering about riding to Berlin this summer.

  • TRP Hylex is fucking awesome.

I still haven't rebleed mine for over a years, and still get great performance, and I ran a similar set-up ideas as your (abet downtube shifters).

I wouldn't recommend it as it look like you're pretty comfortable with your current set-up already, why fuck it up again for drop bar?

  • I am comfortable, but it feels a bit slow some times. Drops would give me a bit of variation of position too. I've already got some cowbells which are tres comfy.

And, as you said they are good.

  • I have the tiny rear light from BM. It works well. There are however some not so tiny bits you need to fit to make it work. Basically a plate the same size as the big rear light you posted – it's included in the package.

Here you can see my ghetto install.

  • great for ease of stealing

  • Good to know, I'm sure I can knock something up, I can use some of the brass I used for my front light with a 90 degree twist I guess.

    Ps always loved your bike.

  • I feel like the audience on this thread may be able to answer this question - for my "do it all" rack and mudguards bike, I'm looking for a new front fork - could anyone suggest a decent fork - inch and eighth, non tapered, disc mount, rack mount and mudguard eyelets can be for either thru-axle or QR.
I will eventually, when funds allow, be putting a dynamo light set on it too. Which has made me think that maybe a custom steel fork that has all these features plus internal brake hose routing and internal dynamo cable routing might be best? Any input would be appreciated
    PS: Sweet build, very jealous

  • Cheers.

It's definitely possible to mod it. Especially if you're more handy with electronics than I am.

  • Can't help with the internal cable routing, but I drilled a little hole in the bottom of the fork leg on my Thorn forks for the dynamo. Cable comes out of the hole under the fork crown...

  • Do you have a picture of that?

  • not really, sorry! Bike is with my lbs for the next fortnight at least.

Basically the underside of the Crown is open - I.e. You can see inside the steerer. so you can get a cable up inside the fork leg.

I just drilled a little hole in the inside of the fork leg a couple of inches above the fork end

  • Tubus tara arrived today, will fit and take pix asap

Long term I'll work out how to mount my light on it.

  • Ok, thanks. I am currently finishing my own Croix de Fer. I have the dynamo hub, but still need to install the light and USB connection and connect everything. Running the electrical cable outside the fork with cable ties will work for sure, but is a bit untidy.

I'm a bit weary of drilling holes in my brand new fork as well though...
    I'll look into it.

  • Another issue I thought would be easier on the Croix de Fer.
I already had to improvise a spacer (from an old tent pole in fact) to fit the front sks mudguard, and now the Tara will not just let itself get mounted, the lower curved tubus clash with the quick release handle.

Haven't really taken the time to figure something out, but I sure expected this kind of thing to be easier. I would like to see how you fit yours! Do you have mudguards and QR as well?

  • Would be interested to see what you decide to do. Toying with doing this but not sure how I feel about it being quite exposed..q

  • Been meaning to do something like this for a while now but still haven't got round to it...

Exposure Revo mount by Shaggy John, on Flickr

That's on big fender strut but no reason something similar wouldn't work on the Tara.

Other option seems to be welding a bracket on...

  • That welded one looks really good. It can't be too hard to do and is one less thing to rattle loose.

  • Off you go to favourite forum bikes. So good.

  • Pretty much done now, I just need to sort the rear light, get a matching 3rd Rapha bottle and put the rest of my patches on my rando bag. Nice to think about all the British brands I've got here; Hope, Rapha, Genesis, Thorn, BigTop and Restrap.

This summer's touring will probably involve some flying, so the mudguards will be coming off, which affords me the opportunity to put some bigger tyres on - Either 38c Paslas or 42c Soma Supple Vitesse SL (actually made by Panaracer)

@Lieven_De_Vlaminck I use allen key Q/R to avoid this problem and add a tiny bit more security.

Also, whoever was asking about drilling holes in forks for cables, I didn't bother in the end, I remembered the existence of these Shimano Di2 Stick on cable guides, so just used them.
