That SRAM is good when you like external power. How much for the sensor?

• #3253
I had to take mine back for a refund, syncing and software issues rendered it useless, except as a speedo, and I wasted too much time trying to get it to do anything vaguely advanced like upload a route. Shame as it's a good concept, it's small and if it worked would do everything I basically need.

Which sensor?
How's the SRAM good for external power? Caught my attention on that as I'm currently thinking how I'll power a 1000 for the Etape in July - likely to be 10/11 hours duration and my battery doesn't last that long. Thinking of taping small battery pack under Garmin.

The speed/cadence. The SRAM allows enough space for the external power cable on an 800 as it takes the unit slightly over the handlebars which were in the way with the other mounts.

And get a tri bag for the battery.

OK - lets talk mounts. I want to clean up the front end of my road bike, more out of neatness' sake than anything else. I really liked the Morten Tillquist mounts he was flogging, initially on WW, but he's stopped making them ( @mdcc_tester i'm sure there's a few quid in that niche, if you fancy cncing a batch).
The other options for stem mounting stuff are not brilliant. Fetha in Australia are ok, but expensive. I've seen their earlier, non-adjustable prototypes and they looked loads better, but are not for sale.
REC Mounts from Japan make this, which I think would work (and fits quite a broad range of stems). Another bonus is that this mount has additional underslung fittings, so I could pop my light on there too.
Does anyone use a Barfly stem mount? Cheap and seems functional enough, but I don't really understand how it fits? My stem has a split faceplace, which I think is important somehow?
The last option is to get a Raceware mount which will do both my Garmin, and my Exposure light. Only probably is that it's fucking massive. On to upside, they do them in Neon Pink which would match the bike 🤔🤔🤔🤔
Any other options / thoughts?

'my first garmin' post...
About to bite the bullet and go for one, mostly for nav/mapping purposes on longer rides. Don't know the neighbouring countryside of East London well enough to navigate out and back in stress free. Looking at Edge 810 - anyone got any serious issues with it / strong reasons why another model would be better? £219 on Amazon seems reasonable.
Thanks -

If you want to follow a pre-plotted course, then the cheaper 520 is fine for that. Not had any issues following courses so far, and it's how I explore new areas.
Replace the base map on the 520 by following these instructions
http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2013/05/download-garmin-705800810.htmlIf you want ad-hoc navigation then it's the 810/1000, although read Hippy's posts regarding Garmin's ad-hoc navigation.

I couldn't get anywhere near AU$75. I use a K-Edge on my road bike.

Oh hello sailor!
I've used Zipp, Barfly, Garmin and SRAM. They all work as expected for static pieces of plastic that hold a small electronic device.

Yes.
The 810 is the most cursed piece of shit ever to fall from the rectum of the Garmin cycling department. If you see one in the wild, smash the fuck out of it and put it and its owner out of their misery.
AVOID AVOID AVOID!

@fussballclub @MechaMorgan I don't really know which is which, or what they're worth - they came in the box but I've never used them.

I get first dibs on everything pls (will come over after work today/tomorrow or some point sat/sun).

I'll take 'em off your hands for a tenner ;) ;)
being honest - the new version speed and cadence sensors (the two small, black things in the middle of your picture) retail new for about £50, haven't seen any second hand yet... I bought the older Garmin 1-piece speed/cadence for about £10 6 months ago? The mounts are probably about £5 second hand?

I'm not sure I like the idea of anything messing with the stem bolt interface.
Also, it means you can't tilt the display when the sun glare is on it and presumably means you can't run an external power supply without bending the connectors?
-
• #3269
Now that I read up on the new sensors I'd rather not have another GSC 10.
-
• #3270
meh, I'm not that fussed about adding stuff to the stem bolts. As long as they're torqued up, I'm not heavy enough to worry.
I have never angled my garmin due to the sun, nor needed an external charger ¯_(ツ)_/¯ I can ride ~200km and my 800 will still have 30% battery left, and I'm unlikely to ride much further in a day.

I'm just telling you pitfalls I have experienced. If you wack it on a show bike and hang it up behind your sofa in between cafe rides that's no concern of mine. :P

New 520 update, forced on to my unit after waking up on a paused ride - which then lost said ride.
Thanks Garmin
The one that isn't the SRAM one? Head on bolt is slightly rounded. Probably fine. Want to see it? Come and get it: it's all of 300yds from your house!
