  • farking hell arrggghhhh, the f-ing geezer that fitted my tyres the other week whacked up the torque and way overtightened the chain - so now dealer says it's fucked the rear sprocket, need new chain, and I need a new rear disc because pads replaced recently were pretty much down to metal, and scored the disc, and it's warped - what the fuck? - fucking bike is costing me a fortune, it's only done 6,000 miles......

    #chevrons

  • Don't worry about the rear disc, learn to ride with the front brake. I haven't used the rear brake for years, not since I did an advanced riding course.
Go and see the tyre fitter too, and get him to fix the chain and sprocket.

  • Light clutch springs to match the engine torque, so not as much strain as a bigger bike. Not sure what size engine casa is riding. edit - see it's a 125, shouldn't be an issue then I guess.

  • Which tyre dealer?

Not surprised to hear it's a warped disc but 6000 miles for rear brake pads is quite surprising, maybe you've been riding the brake accidentally.

  • I think I was

  • Overheating the rear disc and warping it. Live and learn.

  • True dat. Order one up from a breakers or something and just fit it yourself, shouldn't be too expensive. I actually do use the rear brake a decent amount...steadies the ship a bit into corners and even coming out of them if you're making progress. Didn't use it at all on the track though some do. Paddock stands are a great investment - they pay for themselves v quickly.

I'm currently trying to learn not to ride it on my dirt bikes which is more difficult that it sounds when you're wearing MX boots and hanging on with your legs for grim death....

  • Same here. It'll be great. Really pyshced about it. Best of luck.

  • approx 1200 mile return journey in UK in early May

Question - Leathers (with waterproofs) or Textiles?

  • I'd go textile waterproofs.

  • waterproof textiles?

  • Good question. Power ranger or Vintage leather? If it's a good textile suit depends how much time you will be in it off the bike.

  • power ranger leathers

My textile jacket is adventure type - zip is bust but does up with velcro still - that's gonna leak, and it's not very waterproof anyway

probably need a new textile jacket to be honest

will have tankbag and tailpack so taking minimal clothes, but probably won't wear jacket off the bike

  • I have the Rev'it Neptune stuff:

Really versatile and pretty much 100% waterproof (i had a minor seam leek on the way down to France, about 10 hours into continuous downpours). The vents make them perfectly wearable in the summer too.

  • I turned left off Grays Inn road onto Clerkenwell this morning and a superbike came the wrong way up Roseberry at me, swerved and barely missed me. Manic look of enjoyment on the guy's eyes, rather than "oh shit, I've accidentally gone the wrong way up this road into traffic". Christ only knows what he was doing but it was cloooooooose. So many idiots on the road this morning. Awful ride in. Should've been a beautiful day for a spin.

  • Is there much armour in those pantaloons? I need something more protective than chinos.

  • Retrospective have moved to one of the industrial estates north of Blackhorse Road tube, and will be having a grand opening this Sat

  • Knee pads and optional hip pads (about £15).

  • @Soul cheers for those links will take a look

  • Out in Belgium/France this weekend, bikers are really friendly out there. Loads of them too. Really nice place to ride motorbikes.

I only have 2 piece leathers. They're really comfy now having done 5000 miles in them, can wear them all day no bother.

  • Even cars drivers seem more vigilant of bikes.

  • The same idiots are on cycles, motorbikes and cars.

  • Hadn't realised the statement "with sun comes fuck whits" applies to motorcycles as it does bikes (and peds)

So many wobbly folk on massive bikes they only ever ride on sunny evenings, or is that the bitter cynic in me grumbling cos I've endured winter on an awful scooter with wheels smaller then some folks phones?

  • Nah see it often. There are some great roads and arses that don't know how to corner. Race you on the straights and then get in your way in the corners.

  • Just had a go at refitting the inner clutch cable. Seemed to goin alright, cut it to the same length as the old one, fitted it either end, but now the lever has no spring back... Wondering if it's the lever that's knackered or if it just needs adjusting
