Spitfire will go a quite a bit more than 280 knots methinks. You can see that Concorde is close to but not actually at its approach (160kt) attitude, although in the picture here it's already pitched up further to actually land. An attribute of delta wings is the fairly extreme angles of attack required to maintain lift at low airspeeds. The Mach 2 BAC Lightning fighter also touched down at about 160 knots but without the Concorde's extreme pitch angle.

It is definitely a genuine shot, taken in about 1990. 50th anniversary of Battle of Britain or something. Image was issued as a poster I believe long ago. Flew along Dover's famous Dover (or white cliffs as per the song). Spitfire was said to be the oldest one still flying and an actual veteran of the B of B. Google image search isn't infallible BTW!

Amazing. Not sure I'd like to be in a passenger module but it is quite an achievement.
Ocean was quite rough too. -

Not sure I'd like to be in a passenger module
If your passenger compartment is strapped to the first stage, you probably have bigger problems than a bit of choppiness.

Anyone else see Marine One circling this morning? I regularly see the Queens Helo as I work in Kensington, so it was a nice change of pace.

Do they keep aircraft in Europe for his visits?

Guess they plan ahead and fly Marine 1 etc over in time for arrival.
US has strategic air bases in UK. Notable being recent fatal crashes on East Coast.

I heard one earlier. Was in the kitchen and heard something that sounded unlike any helicopter I've heard before and did wonder "Ah, probably an Osprey."
We get Blackhawks over here all the time as well.

Whole of Yorkshire panics after "explosions" shake houses for miles around.
Apparently it was Typhoons going supersonic.

Twitter saying it was sent to escort an Air France flight that was on an unusual course to Newcastle.
Could be bollocks and maybe the pilot was just a Leiceser fan.

All sorts of tales floating around...
It was loud like, I thought either Leeds airport or RAF menwith hill had been attacked.

Whole of Yorkshire
Ahem. No.
12,000 square km didn't panic.
I am not sure it is genuine.
