• It had to be special ordered and for some reason they came up with three separate items. Two of them have arrived. One has not. I have no idea why.

    Weird. And not awesome.

    You have three options:

    • cancel this order. Order a complete 165mm crankset. This will be easier to acquire than the arms and associated bits only. You should be able to get a fairly specific delivery date for it although it's a concern that there are non available here

    • find out if it's a NDS crank that's missing and plug the gap with a stages

    • keep banging on at Evans who will need to keep banging on Cannondale UK (CSG)

  • They have the non-drive side. Fuck.

He's going to check if they have a complete crankset but I'm pretty sure this would've been ordered in the first place if it was available as that was what I was asking for.

  • You would have thought they would have sold all of those to Stages.

It boggles my mind how that can be fulfilled in separate deliveries - they come in a flippen' retail box!

  • This is Stages getting revenge for me slating them.

  • Well, when I ordered them they had to be done via 'special orders' and each part was specified and priced separately. If you know where I can get a retail boxed 165mm set, you can have ALL the BEERS!

For a complete crankset? Fuck. That's a lot of part numbers. And with Evans and Cannondale involved...ah you know where this is going.

OK - I can see if CSG has / can get any complete cranksets. @edscoble seemed to indicate that Evans were sourcing their shit directly from Cannondale US but I'm skeptical. I suspect I might only have the same info as Evans.

  • Evans are fine. It's the UK branch/distributor of Cannondale that don't have the part and are slow getting them (possibly the us doesn't have any but I'm sceptical).

  • Hippy, Stages - who'd have thought it!

  • It'll be conti tyres, and English lager NeXT....

CSG are a bit odd, and Evans might not even be dealing with them (TF Tuned for example deals with Cannondale Europe not CSG despite being in the UK).

I find in cases like this when the part is a bit esoteric you need a shop to fight your corner and I suspect Evans might be a bit passive.

I had no idea getting 165mm arms was such a pain though. Sorry :(

  • Alas no. NDS only.

  • I've used Conti tyres before. Why do you think I hate them so much? :)

    English lager? Like Fosters?

  • Right, so after telling Evans I was prepared to buy an entire bike just to get the cranks they seem to have persisted with the shitheads that are CSG (http://www.cyclingsportsgroup.co.uk/) who have now admitted after 6-7 weeks of keeping us on the hook, that they can't or won't get the part (KP305/165R).

Evans are going to keep the bits they have while I look for maybe a US distributor that can get me the crankset.

  • who have now admitted after 6-7 weeks of keeping us on the hook, that they can't or won't get the part (KP305/165R)

This is what I was told this afternoon, also. I coudn't get to the bottom of whether it's a 'they can't' or a 'they just won't because weird'

To save yourself import duty I'd be tempted to try Dr Cannondale first who will be stocked by Cannondale Europe who aren't CSG.

  • They don't have any stock. Maybe Cannondale's 165mm crank mold exploded recently and they can't make them.

  • Found someone in the US or Canada or something that might have a set to ship.

    Okay, ~ £500 shipped.

This is turning into the LEAST bang for buck upgrade I've ever done...

  • Set up WKO4 tonight not having used TP or WKO before. Mind blown - it's like Bloomberg for training metrics. Was freaked out by some parts of the power curve showing as 'recreational' before realising this was just for the selected ride.

  • @hippy I am in the USA for the next two weeks- if you can find a crank I can bring it back.

  • I took the plunge last night too.

The issue I'm having is that my PMC is buggered. In TP I manually enter an estimated TSS value for all rides on the bike without a PM and this accounts for about 250 TSS a week. However when syncing WKO with TP, that TSS isn't brought across. So I'm left with a CTL less than half of its true value.

Anyone know of a fix? Other than manually adding the TSS to each ride in WKO? There are probably about 300 or so.

  • I know, and I posted that earlier - but I'd be surprised if any retailer or even local importer had a set just sitting on their shelves. I might be wrong, but I suspect this would always have to be an order requested from the mothership, and Dr Cannondale are a respected vendor and might have more truck with getting you a pair than CSG. Worth an ask, anyway.

  • Thanks I've got a mate over there already but I've looked and can't even find them in the US.

    I've since been told that

"The 104mm spindle will work, but Cannondale isn't recommending it because it messes with their desired q factor.

There is no reason why It wont work though, if you are willing to play with getting the right spacing set up."

    and...

"Unfortunately the SL was not produced in a 165mm length so you will not be able to find one but in reality you can use the SISL2 on your bicycle in two options. By using the SISL2 with the new 109mm spindle bottom bracket assembly you will achieve the same q-factor of the SiSL. The SISL2 arms are shaped to take up the 5 mm of additional length on the spindle and maintain the same q-factor. Another option is that because the arms use the same spindle interface you could use the 104 spindle bottom bracket that you already have and if the frame has enough clearance for the chainstays you could actually reduce the q-factor by 5mm.

    http://www.cannondaleexperts.com/Cannondale-SiSL2-SpideRing-Crankset--165mm-Compact_p_3655.html"

I'm not sure who to believe. After all this time, I find out the SiSL2 cranks ARE the skinnier q-factor even without the shorter axle???

  • I find out the SiSL2 cranks ARE the skinnier q-factor even without the shorter axle???

My understanding is as a system with the 109mm spindle, regardless of BB30 or BB30A, they had the same Q as the SISL arms on a 104mm spindle.

    So this is correct:

By using the SISL2 with the new 109mm spindle bottom bracket assembly you will achieve the same q-factor of the SiSL.

So the SISL2 arms have reduced heal clearance by 2.5mm compared to the SL arms to compensate for the 5mm longer axle. I believe the 'new' Si arms are the same design.

As I said in the 'dale thread, you can use them with the 104mm axle but you might find they don't clear the chainstays. You might also need to machine off the stop on the axle and dick around with spacers.

  • .

  • Yes, but what about the q-factor of the Si cranks on the 104mm axle?

I've not looked at SiSL only Si and SiSL2 cranks.

So, I guess the best thing is to get ANY set of arms and both the 104mm and 109mm axle and see if ANY combination fits? £££ >>>
