• I have a question for you folk if I may; I have an old italian road bike frame (casati) upon which the paintwork is a shot. I can leave well enough alone and ignore (purist option) but I have another idea.

    See attached pic/below for ref - the chrome elements on the frame seem to run under the painted bits and I can see (what looks like) chromed metal through some of the chips in the paint....

    Is there a chrome baby under all this shot paintwork? and if so could I paint-strip back to a chrome frame underneath? or am I simply wrong about all this and the chromed bits are only in certain places.

  • Likely there is chrome under the paint, but it's not for show: the initial preparation isn't as thorough, so it will look rough and can't be polished up.
