I had thought of that but the bracket is nice and secure so no bouncing around, and I want to free up as much luggage space as possible for touring. (That's the main time I'll carry a lock on a regular basis, since the rest of the time the bike's mainly used for out-and-back rides from home.) And the weight being slightly further forward might be an advantage once there's more luggage on the back. I'll hopefully have a loaded test ride on Sunday and report back.
I think I've managed to find the only possible Kryptonite D lock attachment configuration that's compatible with my compact triangle bicycle. Inner thigh clearance is tight, heel clearance even tighter but absolutely fine. Also tour-compatible as it doesn't snag with rack or pannier.
