If there is enough thread to fit another cog, I think it will be fine if You glue them on. Obviously it's better to be on the safe side, I just really like the battered look.
There is a little bit of thread on one of the sides but I don't think enough for another cog. Gluing is an option.
I kind of had a night were I couldn't sleep and though about all the terrible things that could happen if the cog came loose...
have you thought about putting some high strength loctite on. Would the glue not damage it?
