try to download direct to the garmin directory on your card.
Thanks, this was what I was trying and the transfer would always fail about half-way through. The error was 'there is a file that is in use/or incompatible' and this would lead to the Garmin/card being disconnected from my computer without my interaction.
Thanks very much for your link. I've just tried it and a similar error occurs.
can’t complete the operation because some data in [file] can’t be read or written/error 36.
I have another theory; in that I'm close to the limit on the SD card. There appears to be a little bit of capacity but I might try a larger capacity card just to see what happens.

Why does the Garmin sensor still record cadence but speed only very intermittently? Battery? I lost a large chunk of distance on Friday; ie blimey it must be more then 30 miles to Cambridge.

F77, thanks for your help. I still need to get the right SD card as I don't quite have enough space, but your tip might just get me there. Thanks
If you ever are at Norths, come and let me buy you multiple beers
[Edit - I think this is a little easier on a PC than a mac, but it isn't a quick process - it takes at least an hour!]

Looks like he is impressed. I will be getting one once my 800 dies or sooner if I sell etc.

Garmin Express I only wanted to send a course to my device so why have you decided to sync 100 fucking rides first that I never asked to be synced which made me fucking late

Garmin
Theres your answer.

• #3211
You're lucky it didn't force a fucking firmware update onto your device.
Hey, Garmin software engineers - fuck you!

I didn't have any problem following a breadcrumb train on my old 200, but I found navigation was impossible on the 500. Froze all the time. If you ever diverted from the breadcrumb trail it was impossible to find your way back to the route. Maybe I just had a bad one?
520 seems way better in this respect. Garmin's basemaps are next to useless but you can use OSM on the 520 provided you don't need to cover a massive area (you're limited to the 90mb or so that is free in the internal storage, which is good enough provided you're not planning a big tour with no access to a computer to swap maps around).
Other than that, in terms of function (and discounting the bluetooth connectivity/strava racing), it seems pretty similar to the 500.

Did a ride yesterday, stopped for a coffee. Paused recording and switched garmin off. Switched it back on and it just sat there on splash screen saying 'working'. Reboots made no difference but it miraculously started working again 15 or so miles later as I got back to my house. Oh and it deleted the first half of the ride as well as not recording the second half. Cheers Garmin!

thanks for your insights, much appreciated.
i was wondering if GPS connection is better than with the 500. i did have some huge issues with connecting and not so clean log data.

I remain a bit skeptical but will be donating my old 800 to the girlfriend and getting the ELEMNT soon. If it turns out not to be matured I can just swap back.

They seem to be addressing issues pretty quick. I guess they went to market early to beta test on users, just like Garmin does. Unlike Garmin though, they seem to have some clue about what cyclists need and fix issues quickly.

What is interesting to me is that it can enumerate the BSX insight as a distinct sensor, and record it's output separately in the .FIT
-
• #3218
Don't Garmins pick up the BSX?
-
• #3219
There's a kludge - can pick it up as cadence, write it to the file as such.
-
• #3220
I see. Well, wait until they push another firmware update to your devices without asking and you might have it...
-
• #3221
I think i might have just been converted, as a developer what they're doing resonates well and I'm sure they'll com good if we support them with our feet. Anyone want an 800 with OS Maps for the UK installed?
-
• #3222
Yeah, I like their style but I've just shelled out loads on 1000 and 30x (plus building bike) so will use that as an excuse to let them settle down a bit with their updates and check what they're like in 6-12 months.

This will be a trend. I have one as well.

in which case I'm jumping on it ASAP before the market crashes. Seems like 120-130 is the going price for head unit only.

I gotta be honest, the first time I saw a 1000 I thought someone had taped their iPhone to an out front mount. That thing is way too big for most uses. I can see how it would be your best friend on a RAAM/Divide/Trans etc. though
When you save move to your micro sd, where from. Why not direct download to the card.
Here is a link to OSM uk, try to download direct to the garmin directory on your card.
