Why has he given it up? I can't imagine anyone is queuing in the street to give him another show. The cunt.

Been doing it for ten years, wants to take a break and do travel type stuff a la Keith Floyd.
He's a bit of a housewives favourite with women of a certain age so I'm sure he'll get another show when he wants one.

The only answer is to wipe the Taliban out, but Pakistan sadly does not have the will, resources or organisation to raise and train a military capable of this. Everyone is too scared of them, or too corrupt. There is some hope in the form of inspirational people like Malala yousafazi, but the situation is dire.
“As our politicians are doing nothing for us, nothing for peace, nothing for education, I want to become prime minister of my country,” Malala says. “To some people this seems too much – they feel you can’t dream that way, you must have a smaller dream. But sometimes it’s good to dream bigger. This is what I’ve been telling our world leaders: dream big, make your ambitions bigger.”

Normski has actually levelled out and has nothing to do with her any more..

I'm glad that she's attacking Boris. I'm also glad that she's pointing out that pedestrians are consistently bottom of the pecking order - it's true: never forget that cyclists aren't actually bottom of the pile. I don't agree with her but this wasn't actually as bad as I was expecting.

The yanks have intelligence so accurate that it can kill a man twice over.
... following his vehicle in at least two helicopters,... they fired on the vehicle instead, killing him. ...
This is not the first time Mr. Qaduli is reported to have been killed. In May, Iraq’s Ministry of Defense said he had been killed by American airstrikes near the northern city of Tal Afar. The Defense Ministry said at the time that “based on accurate intelligence,” Mr. Qaduli and other leaders who had gathered in a mosque had been killed. -

Egypt Air flight has been hijacked.
Most passengers have been released, 5 foreigners and all crew members still being held hostage. -
• #39662
Egypt’s foreign ministry described the hijacker thus:
“He’s not a terrorist, he’s an idiot.”
-
• #39663
Genuine laugh out loud moment when I heard that. Must be something lost in translation?

reports say he hijacked the plane so he could see his estranged lover
" and when Cypriot Press was asked whether 'a woman was involved' he reportedly replied: "There is always a woman involved." "

Oh for fucks sake. Watching the BBC news about the fella who had a 'selfie' taken with the plane hijacker. The reporter goes on to say the selfie was taken by a stewardess. THEN ITS JUST A FUCKING PHOTOGRAPH YOU CHUFFING MORON. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRGGHHHHHHG

Yep, good read.
One note "Europe’s refusal to allow state aid to industry, making it the only major economic bloc that has no effective industrial strategy"
France has never given a flying fuck about this and has saved their own industries several times. If the UK want they can ignore it.
The EU as a trade block is indeed very neolib atm :/

• #39671
What did saving our banking sector count as, in that case?
-
• #39672
Also - "eight years of central bank intervention have left the world economy on life support."
Rilly? Sounds like axe grinding.
And "Energy is expensive because we need to wean ourselves off carbon."
Oil & Gas prices tho. And plumetting demand from the oil & gas industry.
He doesn't mention the global oversupply of steel - China can dump because they are overstocked, and the yuan is still depreciating.
-
• #39673
China’s strategy of supporting its own unprofitable, and indeed bankrupt steel mills, thus dumping hundreds of tonnes of unsellable steel onto the world market, at prices Tata cannot match
-
• #39674
The point about not supporting new tech for cleaner energy is about right. That and the defence industry.
-
• #39675
lets see how 'cheap' that steel is once the chinese steel manufacturers realise the UK no longer has the wherewithal to produce their own.
